Well, it seems I did as well!Molly wrote:Nobody's going to buy a contour heel Strat neck. I'll need to persist with it.Slowy wrote:Flick the neck and get the right one.
And that Tele body is one piece!!!!!
But I think Slowy may be right. Later on down the track, I think you might have more trouble selling a vintage spec Strat with a contoured heel--that's a very odd combination. Unless of course you think you will keep it, in which case why the hell not contour the heel!

Re: Tele & Strat Build Project
Yes. You did, sorry. I guess at least, unlike you, I'm not faced with the prospect of carving-up a Fender body to make it work. So, yeah, I'll just make the body fit the neck. It's a partscaster so resale isn't really an issue. I'd probably sell it in bits anyway.olegmcnoleg wrote:Well, it seems I did as well!Molly wrote:Nobody's going to buy a contour heel Strat neck. Looking forward to following along, very envious of all you DIY'ers on here.
Now that paint's all off, imagine how resonant the thing is going to be

Re: Tele & Strat Build Project
OK. Quick update and a problem / question.
Had some very nice Kluson parts arrive from ToneLounge today (thanks Mathew) so even though I've got to strip, modify and paint the body of this guitar I thought I'd put it together just to give it a go.
Staggered height machine heads. So bloody smooth!
Still have this problem and now realise that just buying a back plate for a contour heel Strat and modifying the body won't do the trick as the spacing is completely different (not just a question of one hole being a bit further in). So I have to make a fucking backplate of my own that is both a bit of standard and a bit of contour heel.
Anyway, it's kind of together but despite my best efforts I've a shielding problem. Not quite the usual noise - bit squealy - goes away when you touch the bridge but it also goes away when you back off the tone pot for whatever pickup is selected. Any ideas? Tested the set up with my Tele and all's well so it is the Strat that's at fault.
Thanks.

Actually, that's a great idea. I'll give you fifty bucks for that crappy body that does not fit the neck properly.Conway wrote:If you’re having problems Molly, just part it out and buy my Suhr.

Re: Tele & Strat Build Project
Occurred to me tonight that I'm as well to source an AllParts body that's designed to work with that neck rather than modify and paint this one.Conway wrote:My work here is done.olegmcnoleg wrote:What a great color for a Strat!
Fucking nuisance all round though. Would've been a lot of hassle avoided if the seller hadn't said the neck would fit a standard body and provided a link (to a completely different neck) so as to reinforce the point.
What've you done with your neck, oleg? On the log burner yet?

Re: Tele & Strat Build Project
I have a modern Strat type thing that I might try to fit it to. It has the contoured heel. Still need to dowel and redrill the holes though.
Let me know if you are selling that body as I have a Warmoth neck that would fit it nicely. Rosewood, mind. Or we could build a shared guitar from our pooled parts
