Ah grandma's recipe worked again
Love that Yamaha blue lining

When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

Re: NGD: 1978 Fender P bass
Initially I was skeptical as I hadn’t seen fender cases with blue lining, only gold or morange .jvpp wrote:Ah grandma's recipe worked again

But a bit of inter web trawling threw up,a few examples from the late 70s with the same lining.

I'm skeptical that is the original case. I've never seen a factory Fender bass case with blue interior from the 70s and the handle on yours looks like it is plastic -- I don't think they used those until years later. An original handle would have white trim and be a softer material. Also there would be a Fender logo on the exterior of the case, in any case.
BTW congrats on de-stinkifying everything.

Re: NGD: 1978 Fender P bass
The handle most definitely is NOT original. It is leather (or leatherette) and is riveted on. Which doesnt surprise me as the handle on my 74' case is about to fall off. the previous owner has added a couple of more robust latches to compliment the fender suitcase ones too. which is a good thing, as once again the 74 case i have relies on a large mans belt to keep it from popping open on anything more than the lightest of journeys . The remainder of the case looks convincingly fender though.sunburster wrote:I'm skeptical that is the original case. Here are two listings that appear to be fender original cases in with blue interior. Who knows tho...

... the main listing for the second one reads ...''Case is the blue-lined tolex that I believe were used on Fenders destined for Canada back in the day so it might be original.'
Also that reverb listing states 'no logo' as if it were issued that way. There are plenty of examples of 'no logo' fender cases.
At any rate its a functional black box with a fuzzy inside that is very good for the putting in of bass guitars.

Your ‘64 case needs a foot BTW. Bloody annoying

Loving it. It's pretty light for an70s P. The neck feels great and it didn't take much to set it up.
I'm new to data really, but man I'm sold !!! Can't wait to plug her in with the band. Be fun to compare to the 74 maple board.

Sounds cool
Hmm that's interesting. Yep I'm fairly sure it's an original case . Fender made do a lot of the time just using what was available.
