True, but the appeal of having those to track through is pretty strong. Although, that being said, I do have fairly decent speaker emulation built into my interface (Antelope Audio Zen Studio +)godgrinder wrote:If it's for recording only, a good load box should be enough? You can always add IR's and FXs in the DAW.bender wrote:Yeah, it's a tough one because I'm pretty close to exactly their target market. I do a lot of recording at home, have three amps that are too loud for that to be practical, and am a professional audio engineer so I have pretty high expectations of gear. I just wish it was about $1k less.

Re: Universal Audio OX - Reactive Load and Speaker Emulator
There are plenty of other tools that will do this job and some that do it really well Bender. Half the price of this? Probably would look into a second hand Torpedo Live but not that easy to come by.
Rivera rockcrusher? No experience.
I’m keen to get the best and as close to the real thing as I can, if this does that, worth the extra $ to me.

Yeah, I totally get that. I take the same approach with things like microphones and preamps. If my composition work was more guitar driven, I'd probably bite the bullet, but it hasn't ever really been.MattAnt wrote:There are plenty of other tools that will do this job and some that do it really well Bender. there's about 3 on reverb and you'd be looking $1500 at least for any of them + shipping.

The Torpedo Lives were only $1595 at Music Works early last year. (not checked since, but think Mattallica got his there) They seem to hold their resale I guess.
No one ever died of hard work.. but why take the risk..

Re: Universal Audio OX - Reactive Load and Speaker Emulator
Downside of a Torpedo live is it is jack out only (no XLR) which isn’t the end of the world for recording, but a pain in the arse live as you end up using a DI to the board. Having said that, it’s a great tool that sounds awesome.

Re: Universal Audio OX - Reactive Load and Speaker Emulator
It's a balanced line out so you don't need a DI, just plug straight into one of the line inputs on the console (which are usually TRS jack inputs).null_pointer wrote:Downside of a Torpedo live is it is jack out only (no XLR) which isn’t the end of the world for recording, but a pain in the arse live as you end up using a DI to the board. Re: Universal Audio OX - Reactive Load and Speaker Emulator
I like everything in the first 16 ports of my board and jacks look untidy there :p
Actually should note I don’t have 20m jack cables either, so XLR is king for longer runs.

It has an spdif output, which transmits a cab sim signal, plus a load signal without the cab sim for you to use other IR's in your DAW.null_pointer wrote:Downside of a Torpedo live is it is jack out only (no XLR) which isn’t the end of the world for recording, but a pain in the arse live as you end up using a DI to the board. A TRS Jack to XLR cable or adapter is all you need thennull_pointer wrote:I like everything in the first 16 ports of my board and jacks look untidy there :p
