Re: Macro Archtop
Thats awesome. How difficult did you find the neck joint? Does the end of the finger board float above the body? Lovely wood in this as well as the tele.Jehu wrote:Thanks! Sure, here is a small smattering forLostininverness wrote:Thats an excellent first build. Do you have pics of your other work?
Re: Macro Archtop
Thanks... that one is a Kauri top, Tulip back and sides, and Puriri dark bits. The tele is Kahikatea with a birdseye maple neck.Lostininverness wrote: Thats awesome. The neck joint is no picnic when you're not using a router and template. You have to take your time with it, isolate one variable (angle, centreline, pitch, elevation) at a time, and be prepared to shim! Yep, the neck is cantilevered above the top.

Yeah, not a fan of phosphor bronze... it may just be the light, but who knows, I might have had one of those strung up with PBs at the time. Anyway, I'm normally an 80/20 man for acoustic.Zaulkin wrote:That's so awesome. Love your work.
Don't you find the phosphor bronze strings too bright?

Damn! All this time I thought 80/20 is brighter than PB!Jehu wrote:Yeah, not a fan of phosphor bronze... it may just be the light, but who knows, I might have had one of those strung up with PBs at the time. Meh, I suppose it's all in the ear of the beholder. I find 80/20s to be quite zingy when they're brand new, but after a bit of break-in they mellow out to a nice balance.codedog wrote: Damn! All this time I thought 80/20 is brighter than PB!
