Changing our flag

Postby Rog on Wed Oct 20, 2004 7:55 am

There seems to be a major push for a referendum to consider changing the NZ flag.

What do you think about it?

Personally I like the black flag with the silver fern, but there could be a problem with that, since some idiot let the All Black's lawyers tie that up as an AB trademark...

I do feel that our flag is just too much like Oz's - & that's never a good thing, imo.

One other good thing about the black and silver is that it is reminiscent of the Jolly Roger & that's cool by me - LOL

I can't even tell the NZ and Aussie flag apart, and I don't care to know how either. So, I would say that whatever they do with the flag will not interest me in the slightest!

People in Auckland have no desire to change the flag. there is no talk up here about it. From the sounds of it this whole thing come from slow news day out in the provinces.

One the one hand, the current flag does represent one side of the country's history, and that's a good thing. otoh, it's only one side - the British side of it. Personally I think we should keep that aspect - the little Union jack etc, and the Southern Cross is always nice to hAve there, but maybe work in something else to represent the other aspects of our history.
Is it because I is metal?? 8)

Rog,
I understand that we were first with the union jack / southern cross flag. It's the aussies who copied us.

I say we should keep our flag and the aussies should change thiers.

Well if you can't tell the difference between the number of stars in two flags how would you spot the dolphins ? Or maybe how do know what a flag is ?

I don't care to know how either

Best you stay off the cider and country music.
