Re: Return of the Gibson shocker thread!

Take this example of Gibson's artist relations. In 1990 Slash went to Gibson and asked for three guitars to take on tour. This was four years after the release of Appetite, which was multi platinum, and GnR was on permanent rotation on MTV, with Slash playing a Les Paul in almost every take. Slash ...

Re: Return of the Gibson shocker thread!

Total sales are down because guitars are getting less popular. When I was a child grown men collected electric trains or stamps. Yet today there is almost no interest in trains and stamps. If you are into those things, you look out of step with the times. Guitars are going the same way. Our hobby w...

Re: Return of the Gibson shocker thread!

Interesting. Strikes me that these bigger companies might be a bit bloated. If the market for guitars is shrinking, perhaps them shrinking too would be a good way to continue on.

Re: Return of the Gibson shocker thread!

Gibson (new) buyers seem to be a fickle lot, PRS has been stretching the boundaries with elaborate dyes and unique shades for a while now, Gibson releases a new range of not particularly radical colours (compared to PRS) and you'd think they'd made them with images of murdered children on them. Rel...

Re: Return of the Gibson shocker thread!

This, but I think innovation needs to be artist driven, not "Let's build the next game changer". I am happy to be corrected but from the Telecaster to the 335 each step forward came from the players requesting a solution to a problem. Not the upper management producing what they think the...

Cool stuff. I've always wanted one of these old Harmony guys, ever since I heard the great dry sound Ryan Adams got out of his Buck Owens. The amount of work they often seem to need has put me off, though.

Re: Show us your pedalboard

Little afternoon project. Hacked apart an old suitcase and voila! https://preview.ibb.co/mh7SMS/IMG_20180210_173018.jpg Never been a big pedal guy, but I've got more than usual now, so needed a place for them. Have a trem I'll probably chuck on there too. And plenty of space for the Big Muff when it...

Re: Quincey Jones

Meh, he came from the jazz world, and compared to those freak golden age jazz guys, The Beatles were terrible musicians. Don't think he was saying anything disparaging about their songwriting ability.
