Re: Exodus, BFMV and Soulfly
Here's some good new thrash bands to check out if that's what floats your boat. Warbringer 'waking into nightmares' is a KILLER album. Must have. Their previous album, wasn't so hot. Re: Granger Amp.
Soldano SLO clone. He's even used the boards from smashguitars at the sloclone forum - the ones that say not for commercial use on them.
It's kind of rough selling a clone of someone else's current model. It's like me selling a clone of a Greenstone amp for half the price. Bad form.

Re: Mesa Boogie Stiletto Deuce Stage 2 & ACE (Heads)
Stage 2 has a revised preamp. It's similar, but probably less of the things Sam is complaining of.
They do sound pretty good from what I've heared on YT, but they do seem to be lacking any serious low end, and the top is really fizzy. They'd need some modding...

Re: what IS the "voice" of an amp?
Interesting topic. Most of it has been covered already, Mesa Dual Rec vs Peavey 5150 - they're not the same circuit. The circuits have a lot of similarities, but also have important differences which gives amp of these amps i's voice - in a case of amps like this, distortion texture, compression, fi...

Re: Soldano SLO
This leads me to surmise that the OT must play a huge part in the tone/feel of this amp. I believe that simply cloning the circuit will not get you there - you would also need to replicate the OT specs. There are actually a few diferences in the preamp, FX loop, and less filtering in the power supp...

Re: Need Amp Grill
I got it from a mate who works at a sheet metal factory. Any local sheet metal place will have it, just look in the yellow pages... The diamond stuff ^^ is called 'expanded metal'.crowbgood1 wrote:Thats the stuff! I'm after that but finer.
Also I need enough to do a cab (1x12) too. Where did you score your's?

Re: Need Amp Grill
Customizing a wee combo into a head and cab and was planning on using a fine metal grill (wanna see the valves). I cant find much on the net. Has anyone got any info? I've got some 'expanded metal' round here somewhere, if you want some of that... It's already cut to size, so it might not fit what ...

Re: Gunn 50 schematic?
There used to be a schematic on CAB / Freedom music website (Gunn 100 IIRC, I imagine they share the same preamp?). Maybe PM Ryan or Rob. They might still have a copy somewhere.
Also, definitely take some pics IB...

um.. when I said 'layout' i meant parts layout too  I is just an assembler bro  Yeah, I was talking to michael_m about finding the better scan. Looks like I can use the other synth schematic for all of the hard to see parts though... As for cost, I'll do the layout & redesign for fre...

Re: Hand clap pedal!
The only problem I can see is some of those parts on the schematic are unreadable, you may have to find a better scan. I think I've found substitutes for most of the obsolete silicone parts...

Re: DIY Amp parts supply
a set of the right-sized chassis hole punches what will I need punches for? can't I just make all the holes with drill bits or am I missing something here? yeah you can make all the chassis holes with a decent drill press. (Using a hand-held drill trying to make a 1" hole wouldn't be too much ...

Re: METAL! (sheet metal that is)
Thanks Alan, I'll give 'em a call. We do stainless chassis and we have used Supreme Sheetmetal in Hamilton (Anth). The trick we have found is to get a single supplier who can deliver a finished product including labelling/engraving/inking or whatever. We are still exploring options as we are not co...
