It's so much easier to relax and do nothing.

Re: Tone Seekers - Your Personal Best Tone

A tweed Fender bassman reissue, volume on 9-10, simple as that. Put an attenuator on - magic gone...

Re: Hiwatt vs Marshall

My thoughts are you have to go for the 4x power tube way, for full experience. Everything in that config I've ever plugged into has what I describe as a majestic quality to it. It may be the harmonics and overtones of 5th, 7ths etc... that I'm hearing, like organ stops perhaps.

Re: Hiwatt vs Marshall

If I was looking at commissioning a build I'd get it done with 4x 6V6 power section and smaller iron. It'd still be loud.

I think that might be on the Trinity amps catalog, I'd have to follow that up to know for sure.

Re: Talk me down!

I heat gunned off the finish on the backside of my Vintage Junior. Looks normal from the front, I figured get some oxygen into the timber.
If you did that you'd see how many bits of wood it's made with.
I think Gary Moore did this with his guitars.

My next imaginary amp adventure is to crank up a DR103 and experience what happens.

Re: Follow the Progress of my "Andronis" Custom Telecaster Build

I've bought from here for car paint (PPG Deltron) before, been a while. Thought I'd check for PPG Speedlac and there it is.

You'd have to follow up with colour tint detail code whatever.

Re: Anyone built an attenuator?

Okay I'll have box it up & post (shudder). Looks approx NZ $25, add forum sales tax @ $10, add postage about $5. Total $40, this is new and unopened in original box.
What say you?

Re: Anyone built an attenuator?

That DIY link the sizzle posted makes good reading and appears doable. I had a look in my stock pile & much to my surprise found the new Dayton Audio L-pads. I have 100w 3/8" shaft in 16 and 8 ohm version. What impedance are you chasing?

I checked that verse. “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

I've got a 4x12 quad that I sometimes wonder what inscriptions lurk inside if any.

I have no religious subscription, only a curious observer.

It was the Eighties, my opinion of an even older pre cbs strat was it was old and shitty, like the car I drove.

...and that car looking like about $30K now.

I actually have a bunch of parts to make one still if you'd like me to dig them out
Is the impedance variable on the Brakelite?

Re: Anyone built an attenuator?

I bought a couple of those Lpads from Parts Express once, 50w - 75w power handling? (memory is poor). I went down the THD Hotplate path instead. Nuisance though as you need a lot of THD's to match different amp types/impedance.

Re: Thoughts on ASH + ROSEWOOD strat??

I once had a US 74 strat, light ash, maple neck and hardtail. Rose tinted glasses & all and a long time ago but that thing was the stratiest quackiest sounding thing.
I can still remember the dude in the shop looking at me in despair as I traded it in on a Charvel.
