Re: Amp hookup wire
It’s easier to dress - stays put yep this. Super easy to do a clean layout with it. If you over-stress it as mentioned though it develops brittle joints and eventually breaks. When you remove the main turret board a couple times to investigate issues all of a sudden you've just created a new one by...

Re: Amp hookup wire
Here's a tip: The wire on computer power supplies is rated 500 volts and is high temp. yep old coffee machines I've pulled apart have really cool high temp/volt cloth covered wire. Dismantled one for parts/recycling and got a few metres of awesome cable which I'm saving for my next eventual amp build

Re: Amp hookup wire
never doing solid core again after the issues with my DR103 clone. Gets brittle and breaks/cracks at the bends eventually and causes crackling

that seems... high. I saw one for a refret on a finished neck for like $350AUD which seems more reasonable

Re: What components determine amp wattage?
in a tube amp, a combination of the power tubes used, how they are used, and the transformers used to both power them AND pair them with speakers. A properly designed dual pentode amp can put out close to 100W (not clean of course), and it goes the other way too, but typically 2x EL84 = ~15W 4 x EL8...

Re: New Stuff Day
I use a dehumidifier, and I find I play the guitars more if I have them out, and not locked away in cases. yeah I'm the same. I feel bad about how little I play some of them, so I leave most of them out on stands. I also get super guilty about not playing my White Falcon enough, so it's on a stand ...

Re: How to detect flame under a gold top
heard someone bragging the other day about how they knew someone with a '69 Les Paul and was about to be like "THEY DIDNT MAKE LPs in the 60s!!!"GrantB wrote:Mid 60’s gold tops?
When I remembered that they did in fact resurrect customs in '68/69.
Still don't believe the person though

Greco RG-85 or RG-100, not sure. Complete with trapeze tailpiece and Creamery Toaster Pickups. Took a bit of messing around with the pickup mounts and still not 100% happy (had to insert a hardwood plug for pickup screw and inserted neck pickup screw on an angle to "catch the the wood"). ...

Re: Forums have been slow, how about a 'In the mail' thread?
Surely you can swap the covers off the old ones? New project coming soon (it’ll last 10 minutes), various guitar parts, no car parts :( BUT my new guitar is ... I’m going to go and collect it this week. Oh fuck yes. firebird pickups are like literally held together by the covers apparently and it's...

Re: Forums have been slow, how about a 'In the mail' thread?
Some new D'Urbano pickups for my Firebird VII. Always struggled with it being a little dark sounding, these are made by a guy here in Melbourne and are apparently based off '63 FB pups but a tad hotter. Demos sound incredible. https://mrfabulous.com.au/FIREBIRD%20GUITAR%20PICKUP Dunno if I'll like t...
