Re: What's on your work bench?

Almost finished putting this together for a friend. IMG_20240229_152646.jpg Lightweight alder body sprayed in black nitrocellulose and then given hairline cracks all over, Fralin pickups 2 x Danelectro style lipsticks and 1 PAF style humbucker, Mojo tone harness, Fender locking staggered tuners so n...

Kdawgs US and A pawnshop prizes no.12

IMG_20240223_163001.jpg Today's funky offering is a 1964 Kawai S2-V. It has that weird 60s Japanese thing where its a set neck but it still has a neck plate. IMG_20240223_163013.jpg I guess they didn't trust their neck tenons. It plays well and sounds shrill and trashy. IMG_20240223_163025.jpg Pair...

Re: Strats.

I played a Strat exclusively for 16 years, turning it from a mint example into the well worn thing I sold to Molly. I retained an American G&L Legacy that is to this day a perfect tool. It's lovely to play and if you want a Strat sound, any Strat sound, it's right there. I know what I like in a...

Re: Les Paul and Tele tuning stability tips?

I've never found the Les Pauls tuning issues a problem. If you've got to tune between songs, then you tune between songs. It's not a hard thing to do. The Telecasters ability to hold tune is a problem. By the time it goes slightly flat every 15 years, the tuners have gone rusty and they're hard to t...

That was a lovely thing. Do you still have it?
I've just watched That Pedal Shows rig rundown of Neil Finn and now I want one! I've got the 70s gold top deluxe, just need the gretsch.
I could help you out with that, but the postage would be steep :-)
I'll be back soon enough!

Re: Les Paul and Tele tuning stability tips?

I have zero problems with Lesters going out of tune, I don't play them. Works a treat. Almost…humbuckers, shorter scale….cripple calliper. That was a lovely thing. Do you still have it? Re: Molestation: An Ethical Perspective.

I don't have any problem modding old guitars for playability. I'd say changing pots and frets only makes the guitar better and if it was an old Fender or Gibson I'd still say the same thing. There's no real point in keeping it original if that means it won't get played. Personally, I go as far as ch...

I tune my Les Paul between each song and my Tele at the start of the year.

Re: What artist immediately comes to mind when I say...

Me, in my workshop. Apart from the superstrat. Perhaps your 2024 resolution should be to go full Steve Vai! I've owned a few superstrats over the years but they've never stuck around for long. Not quite my jam. I really like SGs and I've owned 4 or 5 over the years but I've never really gell...

Re: NOSGD

That is very definitely Kdawg2a approved. Of all the oddities in the guitar world to cross my path, I've never had a 60s Yamaha electric. I'd love to give on a try!
Great score Bruce!

Re: Guitar food groups and must try guitar sounds

I've had an idea recently about a filtertron bridge / P90 necked doublecut with a bigsby style trem, I think theres a lot there to enjoy... It ain't a double cut and the neck pickup isn't a P90 (though it is a big wide, flat coil) but this combo of pickups and trem is a lot of fun! IMG_20240202_123...
