Re: Coated strings - yes or no?
Coated Elixirs are the only ones I will put on my acoustic. I still clean and wipe down my strings/fretboard after use, probably just habit on my part. My favourite-sounding and playing strings used to be Roto-sound Country Gold (piano-style winding), but they went dead after a gig or two. They're p...

Re: Beats to mix with?
I dont know that the Dre cans are designed for mixing - I'd say they're probably not flat enough. In my experience the best way to test mixes is on as many speaker setups as you can access; headphones, laptop, car, regular home stereo, PA etc. If you're mix is consistent and good over lots of syste...

Re: LES PAUL'S GEAR AUCTION!!!!!
Wow, it's almost worth a trip for the auction preview.
I saw his bench vice is up for auction - it's probably no ordinary bench vice, he would have modified it with multi-stage constantly variable gearing, motorized swivel base, adaptive jaws, and of course a tape loop.

Re: What Acoustic Guitars Do You Own?....Daza Is Back!!
My go-to for quiet-time personal use is my old beaten up 68 Gibson Hummingbird. Had the slush-o-matic adjustable saddle replaced years ago with a solid one, wow what a difference. I'm wearing through the top in a couple of places, she has many stories to tell. Plug-in for gigs I use a very beaten up...

Re: Let Me Tell You About Today
I never discuss my purchases with my wife until after they have happened and after she finds out anyway. My explanation is always that I either: a) swapped something else for said piece of equipment. b) previously sold something and the new purchase is either of equal or lesser value. This requires...

Re: Vintage Fender Experts
I guess all of the above is why there isn't just one generic model of guitar in the world. When thinking about what is THE ONE, the answer is always "it depends" (like any good consultant would respond to any question). I dropped into Jackson's Rare Guitars in Sydney a few months ago (holy...

Re: Weber..... WOW!
Thanks to both of you for your informative comments - subtle but very important differences I gather. Now I'm a little perplexed (little bear brain is being overdriven once again ) as to whether I want inefficient speakers or early speaker breakup. Shame there isn't a "Gear World" where on...
