I've never understood people suggesting pot changes, when the volume is on full it's zero ohms, regardless of the pot value... The higher ohm pots are just required to silence a hotter pick up! Zero (more like 2-10ohms IME) from the input to the output but there will still be XXX kOhms across the t...

Why don't you want to replace the pup? You can get single sized humbucker that'll drop straight in for less than a pedal. $58 for a kent Armstrong from guitar parts.co.Nz

Re: Stolen Gear Found! WARNING

well in this case it is probably the insurance company selling it on..... That seems rough, is it normal policy that clients aren't even informed let alone given first option when items are recovered? Maybe not TV's etc but surely its common knowledge musical instruments have sentimental value. Wha...

Re: Stolen Gear Found! WARNING

WTF. A-holes! Forgive my ignorace but I thought, if you got paid out insurance on the gear after it was stolen then doesn't the insurance company technically own the gear if recovered? pretty sure yes insurance company now own the guitar IME they DGAF.. My stolen guitar was recovered (someone took ...

I have ordered a length of the gretsch leather trim (they make them into straps and sell it on ebay) which I will inlay in a routed section around the guitar as in the gretschmodel.

Re: Pots and wires, how do they work?

Ooops, didn't realise this was a 'thing' It's a 'thing' in the same way directional cables are a thing... Real ground loops aren't a thing in guitars so star grounding doesn't do anything in that regard, any perceived improvement is probably due to better wiring in general. There is only one ...

Re: Pots and wires, how do they work?

Looking at schematics rather than wiring diagrams should make it way easier to interpret, this is the schem. for your diagram:

note that the earth symbol is missing from the RH volume pot/pup.

Re: Refretting

Or alternatively, I have pondered with the idea of replacing the frets myself and then taking it to someone to get levelled and dressed. (after watching several hours of different refretting videos on rosewood necks I feel fairly confident.) Getting the old frets out and the new in is probably the ...

Even so, your average fret is much harder than your average nut so it should last longer anyway.

Re: stripped screw head hell

I've had the same problem many times, I've used a soldering iron, vice grips, pliers, grinding a flathead slot with a dremel, superglue, various drilling techniques and probably some other hairbrained ideas with much frustration and little success. Don't waste your time, get a set of these: http://w...

Re: Pickup wiring question

Borge, The way I got it, it was sounding thin, so must have been out of phase when it was wired into the guitar. The earth and black were wired to ground, the green and white were wired together, and the red went to the switch. Based on that, Does that give you enough info to work out what wires go...

Re: Pickup wiring question

Hi guys, Is there a way i can measure the pickup with my multimeter, to see what wires get joined, what go to ground, and what go to the pot? I've tried it two ways, and both times, the pickups sounded weak - so was thinking they might be in split mode or something? the Earth will have continuity (...

Any advice/ideas suggestions would be great :D Consider: Weight- can you carry it a couple blocks when you have to? up stairs with you guitar in your other hand? what will it cost if you fly? do you want to awkwardly lift the board out of the case every gig? or just pull off the lid? Looks- will yo...

Re: Laying cables

Fair enough. I just don't like the look of it. Those small circuitry type wires just don't give me confidence in tone or durability compared to a thick standard cable. Just my paranoia though :p The gauge of the signal wire will be at least the same size tho, the bulk of a normal guitar cable is th...
