I thought they made the same noise once they have been crushed. While they are being crushed however the solid state one is far more pleasing to the ear

An awesome afternoon. Good to see some old faces and plenty of new ones too! Apologies if I played too loud. :D
I measured it at 106dB so should be all sweet.

I've played 2 or three outdoor events in bright sunlight and found the same problem. Fantastic otherwise.

Re: Wampler Ecstacy Question.

There's a guy at the Hamilton Blues club who uses one and gets some wicked tone from it. As with all pedals though, you'd have to spend some time with it to see if it works for you.

Re: Does String Gauge Effect Your Tone?

10-52 on gibson scales and 10-46 on guitars with fender scales (unless I'm recording rhythm guitar, then it's 10-52). For me it's about not having the low strings MEEEEEEOOOOOWWW out of tune at the point of pick attack when I hit a chord. It probably sounds better than skinnier strings too but clai...

Re: Vintage Fender Experts

I'm no pre-cbs fender expert. Played less than ten of them. But I can tell you this: I've never met a vintage-style fender that wouldn't have benefitted from a refret with larger wire and a flattening of the neck radius. I think those two things can go an awful long way toward reducing Fender-incap...

Re: Let's talk about Lace Sensors

But Unique's advice is probably on the money: the more clinical-sounding the rest of chain, the more sterile/80s the laces will sound. I was going to say that I have the B - S - R combination and say that I'm completely happy with the sound. Hot_grits reference to Unique's comment made me think tha...

NAD: Xmas came early this year

Went to Music planet Queen St last weekend to by an amp stand for my AC30. While I was there noticed some decent specials.
Vox AC4TV 10 combo for $349 (nomally $649)! Found that one just a little too hard to walk past.

Keep those specials coming.

Re: Basic audio / video recording for youtube

Check out the Zoom Q3 or Zoom Q3HD - both available on eBay. Great devices! I have the Q3... and it's gone down in price since the Q3HD came out. You looking at (roughly) USD $150 plus pp for the Q3 and USD $300 plus pp for the Q3HD. +1 on the zoom. I have a Q3HD. The only bugs I have with it is th...
