No Release, No Surrender
Something a bit dark and fusion-ish that I put together using a backing track entitled "Not Another Vamp" which was written, produced, and recorded by Allan Whaite: soundcloud.com/allan-whaite/not-another-vamp I pretty much used the same set-up as the previous tracks - Epi Dot, Mesa Mini R...

Re: MI Pedal madness
He's one of those guys that was always a complete dork when he was growing up, but managed to get good at something that was cool, so now uses it as a way of proving to everyone, at any available opportunity, just how cool he now is. Without realising he's still just a complete dork that can play g...

Funky Melon Man
My take on Herbie Hancock's classic funk-jazz tune, "Watermelon Man" (plus a bonus cheesy 80s pop music quote!). Gear used: Epi Dot 335 (both pups, more on the bridge than the neck) Mesa Mini Rectifier with a touch of gain Fromel Shape parametric EQ (for some mid boost and a more Boogie Ma...

Re: Bit of an acoustic thing
Dig that, mate. I'd forgotten how good a slide can sound with an acoustic. Nice job!

Re: Stormy Monday - Recording Demo-REMIXED
Thanks, guys!
I just did a remix (figured out how to get the guitar panned across both channels and added some reverb). I think it sounds soooo much better; sits in the mix nicely.

Stormy Monday - Recording Demo-REMIXED
**Remixed with guitar panned across both channels and with some reverb added. The guitar sits so much better in the mix now.** Just some noodling over a backing track to get the hang of my new recording gear. This was at REALLY low volume, but it still gets that classic Mark I tone. Mic is a Rode M1...

New Mic and Interface
Finally - no more "recording" with a bloody point-and-shoot camera! :congrats: It was my birthday yesterday, and my wife bought me a Rode M1 mic (kinda like the SM-58), a stand, and a Focusrite interface. It's pretty basic but works with my iPad and PC, and it should do well for home use/d...

General, All-Purpose Mic?
I can afford one mic. Is there a mic that is suitable for doing: vocals (primary) ambient room mic'ing (for recording band rehearsals) and close-up cabinet mic'ing (for home stuff with backing tracks, etc.) I realize there are serious compromises here, but I'm not after "ideal"; just "...

Re: Black Dog
Definitely has that Riders on the Storm vibe. Adding the harp made it like Neil Young got together with The Doors and had a baby. And I mean all of that as one big compliment. I loved the performance and the production.

Re: YouTube goodness
Well, I started off with something completely different in mind, and then I saw this. They're one of my favorite new bands, and here they're covering a McCartney and Wings classic with their own twist. I really, really, really hope they get down here to NZ some time. Do You Know Mr. Black?
A dba of Jack DeVille Electronics in the USA, Mr. Black pedals. The guy makes some seriously good true bypass pedals. I've got the Supermoon Reverb, and I'm about to pull the plug on this one: http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0174/5126/products/BoostTiger-Front_1024x1024.jpg?231 Up to 20db boost. Re...

Re: What are you gassing for?
I didn't like the Mini-rec on 10W. Seemed like it was being choked/closed up. I was only testing through Ed's one though. Since I wasn't there, I don't know what settings you were on, but if you ever get the chance to play one again, here's some tips: -If you're on "modern" definitely use...

Re: What are you gassing for?
Of course, style of music counts for EVERYTHING. I brought that up about the big/small amp thing because so many of the guys who swear by the big iron fail to acknowledge that. I don't play hard rock, or industrial or metal, so a big amp is of no use to me, personally. I play a lot of jazz, fusion, ...
