Re: The Acoustic Thread

Steel string but with a classical string spacing. Ah. Exactly the opposite of what I'm looking for. :( If I may… Whereas you don’t ideally want a guitar braced for steel strings (too rigid) I think you do need a slightly wider spacing. Not the full 2” of a classical necessarily, but more than a fin...

Yes, they are quite a revelation. Big, bold sound, but still warm.

Re: The Acoustic Thread

Just got this back from Ramsay after a setup. An Epiphone DR500MCE. Solid sitka spruce top, solid mahogany back and sides. Bought second hand in mint condition at a great price. Built in Dec 2021 at the Samick factory in Indonesia. Plays and sounds amazing. Very happy with it joining my family of a...

Re: Taking a guitar to and from Australia: Any CITES issues ?

I'd be nervous about the Brazilian. Probs ok though, I've never had any questions about what kind of woods my guitar is made from. And I usually take a guitar with me when I travel overseas.

Re: Show Us Your Guitar

Artcore.jpg Talking guitars with a work colleague, she said she'd never played P90s so I gave her my Arps to try. A couple of days later, she handed me this. That was 3 weeks ago and I'm starting to worry about the Arps. She describes it as inspirational and shows no sign of returning it. She also ...

Re: Show Us Your Guitar

I've been playing mostly acoustic guitar lately but I'm afraid my Forum credibility has hit a new low. I'm really enjoying the sound of my very heavily played Matsuoka M50. The neck is a challenge; it's wide and the fretboard is flat which is demanding to say the least but the sound! From Canon in ...

Re: Show Us Your Guitar

So you cats are sayin'/writin' that the Fender reissued WRHBs are not to the same spec as the 70's originals? Huh, no shit! I swallowed the jit...thought they were true to spec, CuNiFe threaded rod magnets, the full 11 different herbs and spices shizzle. I think I posted the press release of Fender...

Re: Show Us Your Guitar

A good WRHB is a thing of beauty. I have a Tele body, and I’m looking out for one (or two) WRHB for it. Does not need to be original, there are some good replicas available now. Here’s my question: do they actually need to be so wide? The slots on my Tele are standard HB size, will I really notice ...

Re: Show Us Your Guitar

Oh man, that’s a bummer. I thought they’d improved the WRHB re-issue, but your description is exactly my experience of them from 15 years ago. I spent the better part of an hour twiddling, swapping amps and thinking there was something wrong with my ears. I found sounds that weren't as bad as other...

I did not notice the WRHB earlier, was on my phone. I need to hear this guitar.

Re: Valves in pedals that run on low voltage...hype?

I have some pedals here that use valves in the circuit to gain boost the audio signal through them. They typically have 12VDC PSUs. I've read about 'starved plate' designs in pedals that incorporate valves and there is some argument as to the effectiveness of these designs to the point of the valve...
