I'm right handed in daily life but when I picked up the guitar 20 yrs ago I played it lefty. Stuck with it and here we are!
Gibson don't really make lefty explorers because they're a bunch of jackasses, so I made my own. Sometimes you just need a pointy guitar.

Re: Lefty Explorer build
Looking good! Did you grain fill first? If so, with what? Korina is quite grainy. With regard to the thread about the luthier that did the work you're not happy with, no-one here was suggesting your post misrepresented the situation. This forum is in the public arena and we do need to be mindful of...

Lefty Explorer build
First pic and I'm nearly done. Yes, it's a lefty. https://i.imgur.com/0CEbPLZ.jpg The body was Adrian's last from the workshop, made from white korina. Light as a feather and beautifully resonant and as always with AshCustomWorks stuff, beautifully made. the neck is a 5 piece I made from mahogany/kw...

Re: Digital reverb an' that...
As an alternative I can 100% vouch for the Red Panda Context reverb. No weird shit, no modulations, just a huge amount of very usable reverb in a variety of flavours. You've got knobs for dry/wet, size, high end roll off, and delay before the reverb starts. Awesome pedal, about $300 on reverb.com (w...

Re: NAD Soldano
I was looking at a couple of Classic Lead 80's on trademe but the guy doesn't seem to want to post them. I'd like to get two of whatever comes up but I may hit you up if nothing comes up soon. K12 was the predecessor to the cl80, as i was told by the guy i got it from. Same frame and magnet at the ...

Re: NAD Soldano
I found the X12000's pretty dark/smooth in a close back, I actually like it better than the V1216 they use nowadays. But apparently it doesn't work too well in open back cabs so they stopped using it. If you still need more lows maybe look into the gruntier side of Celestion like the K100. I've got...

Re: Best sounding low watt high gain heads
The guy listed it as 'laney amp', and mine was listed as 'laney pro tube'. Neither mentioned aor.

Re: Best sounding low watt high gain heads
I bought mine last week and the auction for the 50w ended 5 minutes ago. Keep your eyes peeled. The one today went for around $270 which is a crazy price.

Re: Best sounding low watt high gain heads
Laney AOR 30. It's the same circuit as the bigger (50w, 100w) amps but uses a smaller power transformer and 6v6 tubes (so it's actually around 22w). Which is incidentally a JCM800 circuit with an extra tube, so more gain. Also has more EQ options since the Marsdhall tonestack is laughably minimal. A...

Re: Guitar Setup Kit?
to setup any guitar you'd need: an 18" steel rule (doubles as straight edge and a depth gauge) set of hex keys (imperial and metric 1-5mm) Mini screwdrivers Socket set for tightening tuning pegs/jacks/nuts Soldering iron Steel fret guard Steel wool Grits of sandpaper If you're fancy you'd want ...

Re: Anyone had an amp die during shipping?
I received an amp last week that was literally wrapped in 1 layer of cling film. Works great!

Re: Guitar Setup Kit?
What a load of crap. It's $20 worth of tools for $90. I can see right off it doesn't include anything metric, only has a 6" straight edge, and is basically not going to do much towards a full setup and on any guitar that uses metric measurements (which is a great many of them). Pass it up, sour...

You need a multimeter, a crocodile clip, and a mini screwdriver.

Re: Amp Bias, hotter or colder?
It takes 5 minutes to set bias, amp techs would have you believe it's some voodoo magic but you get the numbers, turn a pot and you're done. Nothing to it.

Re: Amp Bias, hotter or colder?
It varies amp to amp.
Try this calculator:
https://robrobinette.com/Tube_Bias_Calculator.htm
You need the plate voltage which you measure from the tube pin(s), and the dissipation of the tubes. Then you can figure out a safe bias (in terms of tube life).
