Re: NMAD SV20H

..... but is somewhat strident and piercing at volume It's an EL34 amp. Isn't that what they do? To a certain degree but not to the point of overpowering the senses :o It's just a little too raspy on the bridge pup of my LP which is what I don't like, don't get that with my other Ms, 1974X and 1962.

Re: NMAD SV20H

With these 4 input Ms I tend to jump the channels and playing at high volume is not generally not the norm for me these days so relief at medium to lower volume playing is what I look for now.
The Bright cap on this one is 4.7nf apparently.

robthemac wrote: Sun Jan 01, 2023 9:57 am Looks great. That piercing treble really smooths out at higher volumes, once the tubes start compressing. Otherwise you can go for a speaker with a little top-end roll-off. Creamback or similar.

Yep, will put a Gold in the cab and that'll add to the overall smoothing out for sure.

Cheers matey, yep burgundy snakeskin, however if I'd had a choice I would always go with the maroon/cream finish, just love the old art deco look that M do so well.

NMAD SV20H

Picked up this stack just before Christmas in mint condition and have been tinkering with it given that it's 20 watts and EL34 loaded, haven't owned an EL34 M for a few years now. It's a very good sounding amp but is somewhat strident and piercing at volume(with the Treble High channel) so might cha...

Check out LP 8 5388 if you want to look at a really curly different top, it's a stunner.

Re: Marshall grill cloth

Webb Enterprises(Mt Wellington) ala Auckland Rockshop are the agents for all things Marshall.
Contacted them a few months ago re some faux pinstripe grille cloth but they didn't have any available, you could try them though.

Re: Guitar shopping in Nashville

David Gilmour used a Gold Top P90 LP for a solo........ Another Brick in the Wall. haha there it is and I was going to type that instead. Not sure how old you are, but once you old enough not to be able to trust your memory, usually the first thing that comes to my mind is correct, then I start goi...

Re: Guitar shopping in Nashville

What a great trip Vox, will be doing the same myself at the end of next year. Re Carters, Walter(the old boy) worked with Gibson for a good number of years before opening his store, and that suspicious marshall was just that unfortunately and maybe 10-12 years ago now. They're straight up good trade...

Re: M2M '58 335 'Runaround Sue' has arrived

I don't know why, but the Bourbonburst finish they do on LPs they don't do on other guitars.
So I sent them a pic of Clapton's '60 335 which shows a burgundy surround and asked them to copy that, which turned out pretty good with my one.

Re: Marshall Amplification - their greatest year

Better late than never.
The JCM800 amps that were first made in '81 take the honours I think, those and the early JTM45s and others in the '60s, seminal stuff.
Here's some of my lot

Re: Anybody else import from Online or use Reverb?

I've bought guitars from the US and Japan since '03 and all smaller items that don't cost a lot in freight, works out a lot cheaper most of the time otherwise I wouldn't do it. Up until about 6 years ago you could bring in 2nd hand gear without having to pay GST, not any more. It comes down to the c...
