Re: Bartel Amplifiers

See he's using Celestion alnicos, great looking well made and costly.
Won't be seeing these in any stores.

Re: Magnatone Amp Thread

Prices put these in the boutique realm. There are a lot of other brands that I'd look at because of that. I guess that's true of most things. I just visited a car museum and was lusting after a McLaren. But for the price I suppose I could buy a few Toyotas. Would still want the McLaren though. Not ...

Re: NAD - Fender 57 Custom Deluxe with Hum

Yours might be the only one in the country? Did you bring it into NZ yourself or did you get it secondhand locally. Special import. The one I played was at Akld Rockshop was 2nd hand and had been bought into the country by the guy who had a heap of customshop guitars there that he'd sold on to them...

Re: Speaker preferences

Saw a vid of the A60 alnico Fane and it sounded very much like a Blue, the Gold has a darker sound.

Re: Speaker preferences

My amp guy told me about Fanes years ago but I hadn't seen any around the place since the '80s when Anil at Rocket used them in his amps from time to time.
See they've currently got a limited range for guitar so it'd be interesting to know how these compare to the old ones.

Re: NAD - Fender 57 Custom Deluxe with Hum

Only thing that I thought of was a 12AY7 in V1 instead of the 12AX7......I'm pretty sure the AY was spec'd for these '57 Custom reissues anyway.

Re: Murphy Lab LPs

I did chuckle at the comment about the '59 and' 60 guitars being dead men walking, which is why there's only 3000 sunbursts left out of the 1500 originally made. There's a lot of fairy dust and old housewives tales about the old vintage guitars......some of this is understandable but some maybe not...

Re: Murphy Lab LPs

It's interesting to note that the price difference between the Ultra Light Aged and Ultra Heavy Aged Murphy Labs is US$3,500. That would seem to pay for an awful lot of man hours of ageing. Excessive pricing on these gats.........but as discussed before......that's a marketing thing.......not for t...

Re: Murphy Lab LPs

This is interesting. I played the two light aged Murphy LP's a few weeks back. Acoustically only. FWIW: I thought neither had quite enough of that acoustic midrange honk a really good one should have. The necks are also getting thinner - which is a taste thing. The Bloomfield on the wall is kind of...
