Re: Any cons for importing guitar?
Ive imported a few from the states and yes the GST can be expensive. You know that they calculate GST on the freighted cost ? The way I have found around this is to get someone in the US to ship it to you as as a gift.Something along the lines of: Dear Joe, sorry you couldnt make it to daves funeral...

Re: NGD Black Friday special.
Soooo. Heres the situation and the question as asked by the Clash. Have committed myself this year to putting in some solid practice with the aim of becoming a better player. To this end I have been straying away from my comfortable cowboy chords into more single note lick type territory. What I hav...

Re: Retro Pickups
I dont have the 6119 that had the TV Jones classics in it anymore, but going from memory and first impressions: the Surf 90s have a lot more snarl and bite to them, a really nice rockabilly sounding pickup imo. I would totally recommend them. Also very reasonably priced compared to SD or suchlike.

Re: Retro Pickups
I have just put a pair of GFS surf 90's into my 73 Guild Starfire while I am waiting on a set of original Guild HB1 pickups to come from the states. The surf 90's are a great rockabilly type sound, but not sure if they are where I want to go with Guild. Looking at ordering a set of the GFS classic 5...

Small combo amp recomendations ?
Hi Guys, im looking for recommendations for a small SS combo amp for home use. It needs to go to a decent volume clean. I dont need any bells and whistles just a volume really (I find FX distracting from the business of getting down and practicing the guitar playing bit), BTW I am in no way a good e...

Re: NGD: Bittersweet reunion
Great to finally read both sides of the story, but whats the ending ? Can the original owner forgive the transgressions of the guitar and move on or wiil he be forever reminded of the bad vibes and harbour grudges evermore ? In which case he should just send it back and move on, having regretted eve...

Re: Anyone using electrical cord for speaker cable?
As said Ive not played about with cabling in guitar amps as I simply cant be arsed. But if I were doing a build, rebuild or tweak then Id go for something from Monster, QED, straightwire, or audioquest. You should be able to find something cheap on TM in the audio section. How much do you need ? Nic...

Re: Anyone using electrical cord for speaker cable?
LOL this one has been done to death over the last 40 odd years in HiFi circles. Short answer is that yes speaker cables do make a difference. Havent tried changing cable on my guitar amps tbh as there are so many other variables but in a HiFi system the difference is considerable. I would see as mu...

Re: Anyone using electrical cord for speaker cable?
csa = cross sectional area ? Mains cable varies hugely in cross sectional area, many IEC type cables are 0.9, the usual appliance cords are usually max 1,5, whereas 2.5 is the standard heaviest gauge used. As a generalisation in HiFi use: as HF travel along the outside of the conductor, multi strand...

Re: Martin A Smith pickups
Gretsches vary hugely in sound and vibe dont they ? My Terada made 6119 was a very different sounding and playing guitar to my current 2420 streamliner. The 6119 was a very civilised instrument, more of a country gentleman picker vibe whereas the Streamliner is very much more Jack white in feel. (ma...
