Re: Hand cutting Paua inlays
As there is a 3 photo limit.... On to the letter H now... Fx - Inlays - Starting with letter H 05 - P1130007.JPG The letter M was not to hard, but I broke the letter Y twice and needed three shots at it. Once all letters were done I sanded the back off (NZ Simon - you are too quick, the post wasn't ...

Hand cutting Paua inlays
There appears to be nothing on this forum about creating one’s own inlays. Most guitars will have inlays cut by laser and router technology and therefore can be extremely complex and fancy. Adding bling does nothing to improve the sound and I much prefer basic inlays on any guitar. I wanted some inl...

Re: Cool restoration
Thanks guys. there are plenty of us home restorers out there I saw your "mickey mouse" restoration - impressive. Any word of advice regarding what glue to use for a plastic on wood binding. I did the top one with Araldite but sanding the excessive glue bits off is not easy as the glue dust...

Hey, I was too embarrassed to put it on this forum, as some of you appear to be sh*t hot restorers. I am only a simple dude giving it a go.... Have a look here:

Re: Cool restoration
Thanks for that. Fascinating, read the whole article. I'm restoring an old ('69 or so) Yamaha and my hours are increasing rapidly.
Still a long way to go, but hope to finish before Christmas.
Cheers

Re: 1960's/70's Yamaha SA30
Questions sort of resolved in other thread.
Here's a pic of the 'dog' - hard to see the state she is on such a small picture... (Note the bone nut)
Once the 'dog' has turned into a princess I shall post a pic again. Several midnights will be required though...
Cheers

Re: 1960's/70's Yamaha SA30
Okay, I don't get it... we have Jimmy with an SA50 and DC with an SA30? An one of them has been given a centre block and the other is still a virgin? And you wanna swap the block??? More seriously, I recently 'acquired' an abused cherry red SA30. The abuse was in the form of heat damage, followed by...

I see this is a very old post but hey, may be it is still being read.
That looks like a nice Yamaha SA50 without the tremolo bar. Have you finished restoring it?

Re: ES-335 Alternatives
How do the newer yamaha hollowbodies compare to the 70s-80s? Have they kept their quality up? We are talking 335 alternatives here so only 3 new Yamaha super axes qualify. The top of the line is the SA2200. I have no experience with them but read on some Yamaha dedicated forum the following: "...

Re: ES-335 Alternatives
Don't wait too long... your fingers may not last that long...That's what I see myself playing when I get old.
A young guy in my mate's band loves playing it, walking back and forward to the amp to 'play' with the feedback...

Re: ES-335 Alternatives
Time to bring this thread back to life! SA50, SA700, SA2000, etc. All very nice guitars... No one has mentioned the SA60 and SA90. So here a couple of pics of my SA60. Second half of the '70s. Fantastic guitar. All original.
