Am Standard vs MIM Baja or Classic Player Tele?

I have a 97 Am standard Tele but after playing a couple of new MIM Teles (Classic Player Esquire) etc I found the quality seemed just as good as mine, but it could be just the ones I played. The Baja has the fatter neck and vintage style bridge and specs, which I think I like better. As far as I kno...

Re: Optical Compressors, whats the go?

My sound guy is very good! I have recorded with him in his studio in the past and he always gets great guitar sounds, thats why when he says "you should look at an optical compressor" i take note. Im sure he would rather I turn down so he can get a better sound, however he is one of the fe...

Re: Optical Compressors, whats the go?

Reg18, it could be simply that your dirty tone is way louder than your clean, and your sound guy is hearing that as a need for compression. Try making the two pretty close in volume, and avoid the scary 18dB boosts that guitarists seem to love I do have my clean and first gain stage pretty much the...

Re: Optical Compressors, whats the go?

Diamond is out of my (what ever I get for my 2 Tele pickups is all I have) budget!
I heard the Mooer Yellow Comp is a copy though....anyone tried one of those?

Optical Compressors, whats the go?

So my sound guy keeps telling me I need an Optical Comp on my board, because my sound is too dynamic! So I guess my aim is to be able to play in a quieter bit of a song with light picking but not rely on having to boost the volume for it to be heard in the mix. I understand there are many elements t...

Re: AC15 - what's the go?

] What were your thoughts on the hw vs the c1?[/quote] I had the first version of the hand wired with the ef86, it was a great sounding amp but not very versatile without a master volume (the new one fixes those issues) I reckon the new C1 is just as good to be honest, I sometimes miss having the co...

Re: AC15 - what's the go?

I have the AC15C1 with a greenback, love it! have done a couple of basic mods so it take pedals better on the top boost channel. I owned the AC15HW version 1 B4 the C1 (was fussy on OD pedal choice) , with a blue in it, so have had a good amount of experience with both the Green and the Blue. The bl...

Re: P/S or quality patch cables, vote in the poll

Are you 100% certain that this issue is from your board? My 1st step would be to run dry into the amp at the same sort of volume for a decent period of time to be sure that its not the amp that is causing it. By my way of thinking, if you determine the issue is definitely the board then I'd look at...

P/S or quality patch cables, vote in the poll

I'm having my signal drop volume ocasionally, I've replaced a few cables thinking it might be that, however the problem Still happens sometimes. Thinking it might be time to get an isolated power supply. I'm running a 1 Spot powering 8 pedals, I'm thinking this could be the problem with the volume d...

Re: Small medium tube combo

You should check out the Carvin Vintage 16 on TM, a really great sounding amp which is pretty underrated.

I borrowed his prototype a while back and can confirm it sounds as good in person as it does in the video!
Really awesome pedal and if I had the cash I'd get one.

This could be an option

Or you could try and convince a certain friend that he sell you his AD30? that as far as I know hasn't left Wellington?

Re: Help! My pedalboard is sucking my tone

Found this video which is very interesting as well, compares different length cables and different bypass buffers effect on your tone. I found it very interesting how much better the Strymon buffered bypass was compared to the Boss TU2. Worth a watch if your inclined. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

jeremyb wrote:Yep, the buffer first would negate you needing it :) I just killed two birds with one stone when I wanted a volume pedal :)

What cables are you using now?
Using EWI for guitar leads, and the cheap molded patch cables for the board.

Re: Help! My pedalboard is sucking my tone

Buffer at beginning and high quality cables, after doing that with my board I suddenly gained a whole ton of treble that was lost!! I have a JHS modded EB VP Jr, and also Lava Soldered Cables, and would recommend both very highly! The thing with a volume pedal with a tuner out on it is you're split...
