Re: Speakers and amps and ohms and magic

Question still lingers though...is it safe to run the amp at 16 ohms into a speaker load of 8 ohms? I was under the impression that running an 8 ohm out into a 16 ohm load is ok and on the occasions I've done it, sounds fine but quieter than a matched output. Running from 16 into 8 though could pot...

Re: The Marshall Bluesbreaker Pedal Reissued

DOD Reissues are going to be a thing lol I was asked to represent the DOD range by Rhino Music the then distributor ( back in the early 80's ). Did a mini show for all the industry mags which was me standing on a stage complete with lighting towers and dry ice playing along to a piece of music I'd ...

Re: NMAD SV20H

Looks great. That piercing treble really smooths out at higher volumes, once the tubes start compressing. Otherwise you can go for a speaker with a little top-end roll-off. Creamback or similar. Yep, will put a Gold in the cab and that'll add to the overall smoothing out for sure. Love a Gold with ...

Re: The Cheap Guitars Thread

https://i.imgur.com/ua3sddB.jpeg Westone Thunder 1A. Amazing Japanese craftsmanship, sounds like a Gibson but does the Fender things too. Brass hardware throughout. Onboard active circuitry. Criminally undervalued. I think because in the UK these were sold in Woolworth stores, caused many people to...

Line the cavities with copper tape and earth wherever possible.

Re: Recommend me a reverse guitar pedal.

There is a humble Danelectro pedal specifically for reverse effects. The Back Talk, it is highly regarded even by those who normally patronise more expensive brands.

Re: Smelly NOAD

Just saying, PT possibly has been run hot - looks like melted wax where wires leave the bell housing? Check the bias :) Danny checked it out for the original owner who wanted it left as stock as possible. He ran it full tilt for a couple of hours and the transformer mercifully didn't heat up beyond...

Re: Smelly NOAD

Getting there. Back is still pretty disgraceful but I can live with that. Cloth from Ben soaked overnight in water with ground coffee and tea bags to take the shine off. Corners and badge from fender shop left in icecream container for a few hours with an open pot of hyrochloric acid to take the shi...

Kudos for carrying the torch so long.

When you cross that line of being more irked by the associated crap than elevated by the joy of playing it's time to back away.

Re: In the Court of the Crimson King: King Crimson at 50

Can't remember the year, long time ago obviously but went to see Free. Opening act was Crimson ( then unknown ) who wandered onto the stage and blasted off with a relentless Schitzoid Man. Needless to say I left when they finished as I knew after that, Free ( who I had seen several times previously ...
