Re: Love the sound of this Matchless Avalon
The Avalon is a take on the 12ax7 channel of the c30 I believe but with the inclusion of some printed circuit boards to cut down on labour costs.. Having owned a C30 for 10 years a while back much of the magic with the amp seemed to come from the Ef86 drive channel for crunchy sounds. The 12ax7 chan...

Re: "Free" Bassist, Andy Fraser - RIP
People remember Free for their more rock blues riff based material but their repertoire was far wider and included some beautifully simple yet perfect songs many of which were instigated by Andy.. After Free he was in a band called Sharks and their debut album First Water features some great lead ba...

Re: Useful Speaker Comparison Website
As a frequent user of the Watford speaker comparison app I should stress that the sometimes subtle differences between the various speakers really becomes apparent through some decent monitors..
Re: P-90 Pots
500k generally gives up a bit more top end.. If you are looking for a non Gibson p90 the Harmonic Design made versions are very cool.. I put a hum sized model in a crappy 90 epi Coronet that I use for slide and it sounds killer..

Re: Can one "Gretsch" a hollow body?
Painting it orange and picking off some of the binding helps too. Joking aside the Filtertrons are a huge part of the sound.. I had a vintage 6120 dc for years and now have a Japanese made Double Jet..Obviously the body materials and construction are very different but the Gretsch tone is still nota...

Re: thoughts on double stop ghost notes
It's hit or miss. There are no speakers guaranteed not to do it... I've been through most of the classic high end models at some stage and every one of them has done it to some degree... Maybe try doing a search on Speaker without Cone Cry and see what others recommend..

Re: thoughts on double stop ghost notes
Speakers play a huge part in this effect hence the reduction when using your interface.. Some folks refer to it as cone cry and some speakers cry more than others...
