Re: Rock N Roll looks like.....
Interesting feedback, thanks. Not surprised at your impression of the JJ's. In my experience, they make good EL84's & GREAT 6V6's, but their pre amp tubes are a bit dull. Plug an old, bright Strat into the Marshall and you might like them a bit more. When experimenting , I have often noticed a h...

Re: Jansen 6/12 with trem and reverb
Definitely 2 EL84, cathode biased. I have the Head version of this, the Jansen 4 Twelve (4 valves, 12 watts clean output, 18 flat out, no trem or reverb). When I got it, Clarry Schollum gave it the once over. I told him to do whatever he thought needed doing and send me the bill. He replaced a coupl...

I feel much better about the Genalex Gold Lions I just bought.... And my Collection of RCA 6L6GC's and multiple old Mullards now looks lke a Red Shed bargain :) RCA made some great power tubes. I use their 6V6's in my Fender type amps bar the TopHat which is running TAD 6L6. The RCA 12AX7's are mea...

Re: Covering cabs
Okay, so tolex, tweed and tablecloth has been used to cover cabinets before, is there any reason why denim hasn't been used (that I know of)? If memory serves, Kustom did some in the '70s. Can't see why it wouldn't be good, but if the price of a pair of Levis is anything to go by, it might double t...

Re: Find me a Strat thread
If you can come up with two more hand shandy, this is the hottest looking Strat I've seen on TM for ages: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=281160271 I think it's a 'Deluxe FSR '62 FMT. No idea what the FSR stands for, but here's some reviews: http://reviews.harmony-central.com/review...

Re: Expensive Tubes?
Any one have experience with old 60's long plate 12AX7's while we're on topic? As microphonic as people say? What about in a Marshall rather than a Fender? I only have short grey plate Sylvania's which I do like a lot, but I just got a quad of long black plates...and have no idea what I'm in for. E...

It's OK Bruce; just take your little pills and keep banging the rocks together. Gidday Bruce, Can you also let the other GANZ guys know about our event? I contacted Dennis but haven't had a response. Thanks, Rob :) Will do my best, Rob but I'm probably not your man. Last time i was as GANZ was when...

"To be even more picky, ebony isn't technically 'bright' as such. It has a high damping factor and accentuates the "attack" part of the decay envelope of each note. That gives the perception of brightness, I suppose. The high damping factor is a middle finger in the face of all the di...

Re: Rosewood vs Maple Fretboards
Did some experimenting last night and discovered something: The lighter my fretting hand, the less difference I noticed between Maple & Rosewood. So here's the question; Do those of you who don't mind either way play with a light touch? And do the rest of you tend to wring your guitar's neck lik...
