Yeah, hence my worry about it being too good to be true. If it looks original, comes with a receipt, and hasn't been stolen, that's good enough for me.

Re: Fake identification

Thanks, everyone. This might be the best $1500 I ever spent. Going to check it's not stolen first, obviously!

I'm waiting on a receipt, but if it shows a purchase from the Rockshop at the right time with the right serial number, I'd struggle to say no...

Re: Fake identification

Hi all, I've been offered what is claimed to be a 2014 Les Paul Custom 1960 reissue for a too-good-be-true price. It all looks pretty legit to me, aside from perhaps the quality of maple used for the top. I don't know if Gibson would let this slide, even as a plain top. Thoughts? http://imgur.com/fl...

That jack orientation is pure genius.

Re: Solid state amps. Thoughts?

I happily gigged bass --> Tech21 British --> SS power amp --> speaker cab for years. Super reliable, super portable, super loud.

I've never found a solid state amp that gives me the warm fuzzies though. Practical, but not necessarily toneful.

Re: Knaggs Guitar deals?

Looks like most of them have moved already. I wonder why the massive discounts? Other outlets internationally are selling for closer to what the Rockshop's RRPs were. No interest in NZ's bread-and-butter market maybe. Due to Kiwi's reluctance to try anything other than established brands, or do you...

Re: Any "forever" amps?

My Marshall 1974X is the amp I play all the time and sometimes with an Xotic EP Booster on the floor. Put an old Celestion T1088 alnico in it recently which gives a lovely early breakup at 2 on the dial..........can't be beat!! Funnily enough, that is my second favourite amp. I had the 2061x for a ...

Re: What's the Custom Shop Difference?

I remember you effectively tearing it from my hands. If you ever want to sell it, let me know. Every strat I have touched since has been a disappointment.

Hope all is well!

Any other over-looked amps in your opinion? Roland Jazz Chorus for me.

That is absolutely spectacular. May I ask if you had any issues with Customs? Did they sting you with GST?

Re: Any "forever" amps?

After being a Fender/Marshall guy for a long time, I made an impulse purchase of a Mesa Rectoverb 50W combo a few years back. Series 2, quite old (and a bit beat-up) now but all stock parts. This thing has absolutely blown me away. I am playing clean 99% of the time, and the definition and clarity i...

Re: What's the Custom Shop Difference?

I've only played twenty or so Fender Custom Shop models, so not a wealth of experience, but I think they are a lot more consistent than the standard models. I'm not a huge fan of Fender quality control, and think that only about 30% of their recent American-made guitars are actually any good. There ...

I could be told it's a 2005 Aria and that wouldn't change the fact that it plays and sounds great, and my money would still be well spent for the joy it has brought me. But I would like to know its story!
