Re: Gibson to carry the Mesa Boogie 'torch'..

I remember my first Boogie. I sold a Marshall Silver Jubilee combo to buy a DC5. I distinctly remember plugging in, hitting an A, and thinking “f*ck, it sounds different. I don’t think I like it.” Hours of tweaking ensued, stubbornly refusing to concede buyer’s remorse. Played a few gigs with it. En...

Re: Anyone using electrical cord for speaker cable?

LOL this one has been done to death over the last 40 odd years in HiFi circles. Short answer is that yes speaker cables do make a difference. Havent tried changing cable on my guitar amps tbh as there are so many other variables but in a HiFi system the difference is considerable. I would see as mu...

Anyone using electrical cord for speaker cable?

Decided it’s time to replace my well worn speaker cables. Quite liked the old grey Jansen/Proel cable, as it was easy to tell apart from guitar cable. But looks like they don’t bring it in any more..... As an alternative, I’m currently eyeing up the braided cord on an old vacuum cleaner ...

Re: Does anyone have a THD 2x12? Dimensions wanted

Do they really sound as good as everyone says? Got a Uni and Flexi that I’ve been tossing up tracking one down for. A/b’d one briefly to an open back with Greenbacks years ago - my only recollection is it was very smooth, and didn’t have those fizzy GB highs that pair well with a Marshall.

Re: Trainwrecks?

Not only that he tuned each due to disparities in the tolerances of the electrical components he used :) I always chuckle when I hear how he used "fast" and "slow" wire in different places in the amp. Ken and Alex made some good amps but the mythology that has risen up over the ...

Trainwrecks?

Wondering if there are any NZ amp builders that are reasonably experienced with Trainwreck circuits? Had a Ceriatone Express ages ago, but it didn’t do anything my Jubilee couldn’t, so I assumed maybe it wasn’t quite as good as it could be. That said, this was before I realised what a goldmine the v...

Re: BOSS Waza-Air headphones

I’ve been eyeing these up for a while. Then the Katana Air practice amp popped up on my feed today. And I haven’t had a wireless for a while. Then it strikes me you could run wireless into, and out of, your pedal board. Which gets me to wondering: how good is the wireless transmission portion of the...

Re: Any Tremelo-No Experiences?

Yup. Years ago. Purchased one, had it shipped to my upcoming hotel in the US. Vendor advised that front desk refused delivery. Lady at front desk responsible for deliveries didn't agree. Discussion escalated. I ended up: having a finger wagged at me, was called cupcake, and eventually had stationery...

Korg AC30TB/X PSA

Quick PSA for anyone with a 90's era Korg AC30 TB/X out there..... Great sounding amp, but there was always this ground hum/buzz in the signal. Turning the normal volume pot up to half way would typically reduce the buzz to tolerable levels. Lyle Caldwell from Psionic Audio sets out the problem, and...
