Re: Anyone used the site guitarsrock.co.nz?
I'm getting better at asking, "is there any room to move?", but it still feels a wee bit cheeky. This is a New Zealand business, not a stall in a marketplace in Saudi Arabia. I'm not sure that haggling is really a big part of the culture, I mean.

Re: This should sound... weird
I finished building the Music Thing Mikrophonie. This is basically a contact piezo microphone, gained up to modular signal levels, and is incredibly fun. And the RYO Triple VCA. More a workhorse module. Something of a pig to calibrate, but I got there in the end :) Also finished up the Bastl Tea Kic...

Re: Soldering Iron recommendations
I would have thought RS Components or Farnell stock Weller though? There was a shop down the road in ellerslie that used to do Weller, so they are obtainable locally. I just don't use an iron enough to buy a station. My inner tight-arse won't let me get a soldering station... it's not like my curre...

Good example of slow, drifty, washy phasing in this one.
Not a bad live recording, either. I've seen too many shitty cellphone "live" videos on youtube.

Holy cr@p! Alan, you should check this out: I now has one of these :) Thonk got a new batch of kits in. Running it through a nearly-self-oscillating filter gets a really nice boing-y quality. Patching something ELSE while leaving it conn...

Re: Soldering Iron recommendations
I use a cheapo Dick Smith 40W pencil iron, I think it was less than twenty bucks.
It's soldered everything from damn-fiddly surface mount work to valve amps.
Technique and type of solder is massively important, more so IMO than how much your iron cost.

Re: Learn me about screen voltage
So, is this anything like when you use a Variac? Is it essentially the same thing? Variacs raise or drop the voltage across the ENTIRE amp, not just the screen voltage. This includes the heaters. Run 'em too low, and you'll start to get Bad Juju (cathode stripping), and the valves wear out quick. R...

Ordered the rest of the parts for this Living VCO's build. Polystyrene caps, C0G/NP0 caps, 0.1% resistors... here's hoping I bother to calibrate it

Re: Getting a Cut List Fulfilled
Actually had a read through some builds and I should get alot of the way with a ripping jig and circular saw! Measure two times, clamp a saw guide down, check the drawings, spot your stupid mistake, re-clamp your saw guide, realise you forgot to allow for the width of the saw blade, measure and re-...
