Re: Fabric finish
I misunderstood how you did this. I thought you used the material as a mask, the sprayed a white guitar black, then removed it to reveal the design. If you could procure one of your Nana's doilies you could try that  Here's a pretty good explanation except he uses a water-based sealer rather t...

Re: Fabric finish
That looks fantastic! How did you do the edges? That would be difficult to make look nice wouldn't it? looks like the fabric is only on the top so I would glue it down and let it "set" then sand along then edge and paint. You would see any seem then This. I also put a few coats of paint o...

Re: Fabric finish
Yeah that was a bit tricky but the edges aren't very rounded on this one so it wasn't so bad. If it was a strat body it would be more difficult and you would have to fade/burst the edges.AiRdAd wrote:That looks fantastic! How did you do the edges? Re: Fabric finish
Very cool. More elegant than most. I don't know why more of us don't do this kind of finish. I think people are put off by thinking it's difficult or worrying that it will kill resonance and sustain. The resonance thing I imagine could be an issue if you did the sides and back too and used some sor...

Re: Fabric finish
It's just one piece of fabric so no seams. The photos don't show it but the sides and back are painted matt black so I didn't have to worry bout joins.codedog wrote:Wow, that looks fantastic! Are there any "seams" visible?

Re: Fabric finish
I think it was 4 coats of epoxy before the texture of the fabric stopped showing through. The top of the body is arched so the epoxy kept running off I'll definitely do another one at some stage. It was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be.

Fabric finish
Thought I'd share a couple of pics of a fabric finish I did a while ago on a body I built. Finally got my A into G to assemble it. The neck is something I've had lying around for a while (Mighty Mite perhaps?). I'm not thrilled with the headstock so I think I'll modify that at some stage. As always,...
