Yea, I missed it and feel bad

I was out 3 nights in a row and got back at 4am on Sunday... so there was no way I could sneak downtown...

Nextime I will be there in spades

After last night, I have the following thoughts to share.

1. Splawn amps are pretty much the business. I was fortunate enough to have a crank on the one supplied by Ryan before the show with my own guitar - the three gears/modes on it should be named brutal/brutaler/brutalist. BG made it sing a nice tune too. 8)

2. Kristie has the best metal-fingers when it comes to super-shreddy solos and Amperzahn's new drummer Tory is pretty tight, good set. Kristie is also awesome for lending her sweeeet XXX amp to Seanus from the Debutantes.

3. Terexgeek,Darkness and I spend too much time contemplating mosh pits and heckling. :) However, it was good times to hang out with a great portion of the members including some I didn't know so well and have a few beers.

4. The Mysterons are my new favorite local act. Top sounds all around, the Cap's stacks of doooooom were indeed heralding of the Apocalypse but tastely so and having a hot young thing like Sophie on vocals is a lovely contrast to all you 'seasoned rockers'. :D

5. I didn't take advantage of the wireless enough. But I did represent the emo kids that night, without really intending too. Highlight of the night? Being told by one female patron that i looked a little like "a slinkier version of that T.K. fellow off Shortland Street."

I saw your giant yawn from on-stage. I thought it was us. Glad to hear you really were knackered. :)

Some big thanks due to a few people.

Crushing Day who truly did slum it by coming to Auckland to support the cause. From running down Elton John's tunnel one week, to an impromptu guest lead spot with the Mysterons the next. No matter how high his star may rise, the man never forgets his people. CD generously provided giveaway packs from Guitarparts.co.nz goodies cupboard which allowed BG to do his cheesy club MC act between bands. Gold.

And who would've guessed my long lost cousin from Wellington and her hot girlfriend, who I met the day before, works for CD's folks? Small world.

Ryan from Custom Audio Boutique who loaned us a mighty Splawn amp head. What a MF from hell. A compliment which probably wouldn't please its maker. :)
The amp was more than capable of competing with my coffee table Super Bass but I fear that BG was still a little timid about turning it up enough. (I backed off, I really did).

BG played a mighty guest solo with us to open the show. He was great and for 9 1/2 minutes it felt like it should never end. Then at 9 3/4 minutes it felt like maybe it should. We almost tuned it into a Freebird experience.

Thanks all for the comps regarding the Mysterons. Hopefully the songs weren't overpowered by my mighty sound. ;)
To be honest that amp was on 2. It think it might even be too much for me. Shhhhhh, did I say that?

Debutantes and Amperzahn are my two new favourites. Scarecrow is a dude. Perfectly blending manly humour with dapper style, emo affectations and metrosexual grooming. An example to us all.
The other guys in the band are cool. Tight play. Great music. Sarah the drummer combines the deadpan playing of Meg White with the beer fuelled thunder of a Bonham.
Of course the singer Dan is inspired. What a maniac. I could write a book on that performance alone. But I can't be arsed. Apparently that was pretty toned down.
One of the few bands that makes me smile through the whole show.
I'm already scheming to do something with the Debs again next year.

Kristie and Amperzahn were a band I've been wanting to see for ages. I'd never have heard of them if it wasn't for this forum. I was worried that the promising stuff I've heard online wasn't going to translate to the stage. Well holy fuken shitz man! Just the soundcheck blew me away. And that was with a guitarist from the Debs sitting in on dums!
Come the peformance and Kristie led her group through some lovely compositions. K and Michelle's combined vocals are really exquisite. Then Kristie did this song, sorry don't know the name, where she wound up the solo until she was shredding like a Tsuken with girly bits. :D And it was awesome.
I was down by the bar at that point along with most of the forum elite and you should have heard the cheers. Darkness had a grin so wide it met at the back. Someone came past me not long after that saying my singer Daniel was talking about sacking me and getting Kristie to play for the Mysterons. :(
She very nearly did a guest shredder spot in one of our songs but she took off to help Scarecrow load out some gear and we couldn't find her (bummer) so CD stepped up at the last minute and did his thing in her place (Mega).

Oh yeah, Tory is a great drummer and a hit with the ladies too. I overheard some women discussing what pick up lines they might use, such as "So, do you fuck as good as you drum?"

Last I have to say a special thanks to Greg our bass player who is leaving the band and to the Mysterons rhythm section who drag me out of the shit whenever I fuck up a song.

Thanks all.

Driving past cafe Jazz in Remuera at 11:50 this morning guess who I see? BG and CD both with their large black sunglasses on (perhaps trying to hide the hangovers fellas?!). I was stopped at the lights and had a good laugh, I was very impressed!
