In conjunction with New Zealand Music Month, the Auckland Blues Club presents a celebration of local original blues.
The Auckland Blues Club will be presenting a series of workshops hosted by some of the best Auckland based musicians we could find covering topics ranging from guitar and harmonica playing to bass players and drummers working as a rhythm section and song writing.
Some of the region’s best live blues artists and bands will also be performing nothing but original material – no covers here!
Everyone through the door will go into the draw for a host of great prizes.
Entry is $10 on the door... Auckland Blues Club members free.
Sunday 27th May, 2012
The Winchester
24 St Benedicts Street
12 pm.

Are there any new Blues bands coming up the ranks in the ABC. those are great bands on that Bill but they are the same everytime you have an event.
It would be great to get some new up and coming acts together to see what the Blues vibe in Auck is like. Or get somebody from across the ditch

Yeah this, fly us over, we'll play. Although we are on the heavier side of the blues spectrum

Sounds awesome!
Long, long before any of you were born, they held the National Banjo pickers Conventions in Hamilton (in about 1967). I went and had an absolute ball. There were formal and informal masterclasses and I took my old 12 string with me, got drunk, stoned & laid delightfully and also tried my legs at square dancing, which believe it or not was bloody great fun.
I think for anything like this, one should go with an open mind and try everything possible. They can be a drag otherwise, but allow things to happen as they will and they can be unforgettable. Just do it!

I think the ABC would take great offence that you are comparing them to the A Banjo Pickers Convention?

Yes, yes... there are.
The William Brown Band is one to watch, Filth Dog (as the name suggests) are on the heavier side of the blues, but still very much blues influenced.
They are just two bands off the top of my head, and there are others.
But, we had a specific criteria for this event - the majority of band members needed to be members of the club, and that the bands could put together 30 mins of
orginal blues material.
No covers at this gig!

And travel expenses to consider.
