The Bats and Loves Ugly Children

Post by Shimmer »

Saturday night at the Christchurch Town Hall saw a bunch of local bands play across four stages at the Go Live festival. I caught Imperial April who were pretty good (just wish the rhythm guitarist with the SG was up a bit louder in the mix!). Great tunes and an excellent cover of Black star by Radiohead
Then my first time ever seeing The Bats!! In the James Hay theatre, they were truly excellent. So many fantastic songs - came away from that one smiling and full of joy.
Then the highlight for me was Loves Ugly Children - their first gig together in over 20 years! I used to see them a bit back in the 90s, and boy can they still bring it! Absolutely intense and unhinged and beautiful! They were obviously loving it themselves and the entire energy in the room was just magic.

Jason! And yeah man - he is an absolute beast of a drummer - and he brought the metal fills for sure! He was having a visibly great time (as were they all).

I caught part of the Bats set and watched Imperial aprils full set, the rhythm guitarist in question is a good friend of mine and his SG had a neck repair done by our very own lostinverness.
I never saw or knew any of Loves Ugly Children songs so didn’t actually go and watch them, maybe I should have, sounds like I missed out.

Imperial April had great tunes and they were all excellent musicians. I'm always a sucker for an SG!
