Re: kings of Leon
I've seen them twice now, both times at the big day out
The latest time I saw them they had evolved into something I didn't like, they had heaps of rock posturing moves and stuff

I've always found that repetitive warbly vocal style profoundly irritating.

Re: kings of Leon
best band in ages
real rock and roll
the live concert DVD from Hammersmith is fan bloody tastic
Thunderbird / 335 / Ampeg cool in buckets
"Charmer" is as good as anything off Doolittle and the think the Pixies were a very special band.
in fact the Kings of Leon almost make me wish I was young again.

Re: kings of Leon
First heard KOL about 5 years ago - the "youthhood" (sic) album. Now, as then, I just can't hear what all the fuss is about. Maybe it's cos I've heard it all before.
But wait a minute - I like stuff/styles I've heard before. I like rock n rolly overdriven guitars. So why don't I like this band?
Well, there's the hype (which is truly cringeworthy) but even that's not enough to put me off music I genuinely like. I guess I like their sound in general, so I think it's the vocals and the songs themselves that just don't work (for me).

That's interesting, I hadn't made that association before you could be onto something there. A big call tho, Doolittle is a pretty iconically wonderful album, track by track it's all kickass. Surferosa is my fav tho, Bone Machine is pure genius.foal30 wrote:

Re: kings of Leon
yeah Surfer Rosa is better than Doolittle
especially with the Come on Pilgrim add on.
I'd think the Pixies were on high rotation for the KOL before the recording sessions for the latest record. and again it shows how influence is better marinated than immediate absorption. as RP may have implied elsewhere on this site New Order is the obvious British one now...and the bands "doing it now" sound better than say the Cure etal...
anyway it's nice to hear an American Band with a serious blues jones cross into Pixies "serious non-blues" zone. Certainly their next album will have a wealth of influence to mine and I think that is a great thing for any band.as for their hype I admit it has passed me by, I've seen nought about them in the mainstream print media and it was through Alt and C4 that I got to hear them.
