Punk'd

Post by ratfink »

Hey did anyone catch the punk top10 last night on C4? [lovin' the whole top10 thing BTW 8) ] I missed up till about number 4 [Green Day - When I Come Around I think it was]...

then:
8) 8) 8) / The Ramones - I Wanna be Sedated

8) 8) / The Clash - Rock the Casbah

8) / The Sex Pistols - Anarchy in the UK

they did pretty well IMO :!:

Regarding the poll, I don't know how many people like punk so this may be a bit of a lost cause, but aah well... and I know there's a few that i've missed out [Buzzcocks, Offspring, New York Dolls, Misfits etc. but the list was too long as it was - it keeps telling me i've entered too many options... and that's what 'other' is for  ]

I prefer the Offspring, and not there new shit stuff. I mean "Ignition" and "Smash". Those two albums ruled. When I was a kid there was nothing cooler than driving round town with "Bad Habit" cranking.

nice - would have been fackin' cool to be in a punk band in '79, at the height of it. Unfortunately I wasn't even able to talk at that stage let alone play a guitar  By then I guess it would have been getting kinda new wave-ish? What sorta stuff did you play?

yeah it was getting new wave...

we did covers of Sex Pistols, stranglers, siouxsie, clash etc ;)

We never got any further than the garage either, then I ended up in a Joy Division tribute band - playing youth clubs etc. Finally ended up doing covers in a 'club band'

There is probaly a whole bunch of guys here think Greenday is the best punk band out there. I can't wait for them to turn up.

hehe yep - they're not really punk I guess, more "power pop" or something, but if that was what influenced them, then so be it. I know they influenced me, back whe I was young and impressionable, though certainly were not the "most influential"

i just hope no-one says anything about Blink-182..

What about Good Charlotte??????

j/k :P

Punk wasn't a big thing for me. I did like Siouxsie, and I guess the Sex Pistols probably had some second hand influence, since they were a large part of why Bad Brains chose their eventual musical direction.

Well i guess if u classify green day as punk, then they would have been the first punk band that i listened to. and as i started liking them, started listening to the ramones and the clash too..

and can the cure be classified asnew wave? someone said they were actually punk..

So Green Day has been a good influence as it made you go back to the roots.

*sigh* that makes them a good portal then in essence.

Im a big fan of greenday and pennywise, i dont care if its called punk or power pop or anything else i still like it. A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet. Quite keen on rancid and nofx, bad religion has some cool songs but their lyrics show some really flawed logic.
