EDIROL ROLAND R-09HR ? please

Post by Ears »

Has anybody here used this recorder http://www.roland.com/products/en/R-09HR/specs.htm

or can provide a review it? NZRS stock them.

Sony make a similar product, http://www.protel.co.nz/sony/Audio/PCM-D50.html

any comparisons?

or if anyone can suggest a forum or similar where I might find reasonable reviews for them.

no, I assumed zoom is electric guitar orientated, I'm looking to record acoustic instrument quickly and simply for later PC download and editing.
I had a new Fostex digital machine which crapped out before I got recording environment and gear sorted out. Won't go down that road again.

The Sony PCM D-50 and PCM-M10 sound quite a lot better IME. I've the Edirol R09 and both Sony models for recording sound FX, ambience and a little bit of music and the Sony ones are quite a lot less noisy, have a decent amount of built in storage (4GB each) and are better build quality. The M10 (which I have since bought) is cheaper than the Edirol. Get in touch with someone at Protel (check the bottom end of this page http://www.protel.co.nz/prices/sonyproaudio.htm for their prices excluding GST) if you want one. The D-50 is well worth the extra coin if you can stretch that far.
