Weezer - Make Believe

Post by GrantB »

This is the 5th album from Weezer, the nerd guitars rockers. I love em - a mix of 50's doo-wop with silly lyrics and driving distorted guitars. Everyone in the galaxy knows the song "Buddy Holly".

This album sees them sounding more like the Green album than Maladroit. The guitars still rock out, and some new soiunds too - like they finally changed from their Marshalls and tried a Mesa or Vox or two...

Although I am completely biased, this album is a 9/10. Only weak-ish point is I think the lyrics have taken a slight step backwards...who gives a samick about lyrics...

Nah, I remember the early stuff being Mesa. I was looking at a super indepth site on them one day and it has all the gear from all the tours over all the years.

Have a look at the inside cover photo of the Green album - it's them playing live. Two big stacks of Marshalls for probably Rivers, and could be Mesa but looks like a mix of Fender, and Marshall for Bell, including a large Marshall quad.
In looking at their info on the web, there is a popular belief that they use POD's through the PA! There is even a PodCast from the guitar tech...

well that site for equipment is updated by Karl Koch
Who is very very very involved with the band
Kind of like Nigel Godrich and Radiohead
so it's pretty accurate
also in the weezer dvd, in the commentary
Brian speaks about the pods they adopted
after talking about how he liked seeing the leads
and cables and shittzilla, Hullo

I would probably say their "coloured" albums (Blue and Green) have been better than stuff like Pinkerton or Maladroit, but I like the first single so far, hopefully a sign of things to come.

I think everything they've released
has been pretty solid, I haven't heard
Beverly hills or Make believe so we can
exclude that one but I don't know
can I play chess in leather?
