Setzer set swaparoo (now with demos)
Finally got a neck setzer filtertron to match the bridge I got of TM a while back and banged em in the vintage gretsch nasville
But I just couldnt live with the shiney chrome covers and Brians signature gizzed all over it.
So with a little solder razoring I managed to pop the chrome covers off the setzers and affix the OG gretsch covers.
I think it looks great.
Had a quick play thru the supro 1695t with a bit of reverb, modualted delay and some super chilee boost and they do what they should (will record something tomorrow).
Im exactly whelmed with the neck pickup but stoked with the bridge. Together they do a nice chet sound. The bridge can get gnarly but is the right amount of chine and grind to get that setzer 'sleep walk' tone.

How do you find the Setzer neck? Perhaps vs a Classic?

Re: Gretsch setzer set swaparoo
I havent given it a good adjustment and play through the bassman 6g6b yet so ill reserve my full judgement BUT initial vibe is that its 'ok'. Better than the stock gretsch mud brick that was in there and quite balanced output wise but nothing captivating.
Its been a while since I tried the TV jones classic but id say the setzer is darker, hotter and fuller than the classic but def in the same ball park
I havent looked up the specs but id say they are a fairly similar pickup with the setzer packing a bit more output.

Re: Setzer set swaparoo (now with demos)
Quick little demo
Both pickups
Ryan bassman 6g6b
Bit of crowther for clean boost
Ibanez echo shift (pretending to be space echo)

Lovely playing as usual. Great looking guitar too.
More importantly... when you are done with those shorts, I'll have them please

They’re not Dutch regulation length yet. I’ll get a rabid badger to gnaw off the lower two thirds and then I’d be happy to them your way. A standard envelope should do.

Re: Gretsch setzer set swaparoo
Now that I’ve given the neck a proper test thru the bassman I’d say it’s a good sounding pickup in conjunction with the setzer bridge but it doesn’t have a lot of wow factor on its own
Now try at I know the tv jones covers are easy enough to remove I might keep an eye out for other tv jones neck pickups to try out

I wouldn't have a clue what to do with that guitar but it's bloody cool.

This is when you know you've had too many transactions. I believe that guitar came to me via a local seller in the Waikato. I was obsessed with 6120's from any era, and I quickly found myself with two of these 7660's (6120's). I think it then when to opsguy from memory?
