Hard tailing a strat

Post by TBB Flamey »

I never use the whammy bar on my strat and I've had to steal springs from my Harper guitar to accomodate it's new setup to 10-52 strings, so I thought I may as well 'hardtail' (As I've heard some of yours are) them both.

Is there any special way to do it? Or do you just jam a piece of wood up behind the bridge inside the guitar to stop it from moving?

Cheers 8)

I don't use any wood - I have all 5 springs installed, and tightened up pretty good, and the bridge screwed down hard (using the spring force, not the bridge to determine the flatness against the body). There are arguments about how the jammed-in wood adds magical, if not hallucinogenic properties to your tone. Mmmm, well, bridge against body, springs holding tight, etc etc...good enuf for me.

The best trem I have currently is a draw between a Gibson Vibrola and a Duo Jet Bigsby....the Gibson nudging ahead. Man it's amazing...light, but tightens at the touch, and doesn't detune at all....shame no-one believes me, these Vibrola's are cursed or gifted....mostly cursed. Where's TMG03 - what's your view on Vibrola's - I know you got one. :)

I just screwed the claw in tight and the trem now sits down on the body and I've never had a problem with it. My trem is a two-point fully floating Fender.
He hit a chord that rocked the spinet and disappeared into the infinite ...

Sweetas. It's mainly because I can't be bothered going to a music shop and buying more springs for my Harper. And I did hear it supposedly makes your tone better.

Might just jam some wood into the harper, my strat's okay as it is with all five springs

thanks
