Bigbsy and Vibramate

Post by timj47 »

Does anyone have first hand experience with these? The concept looks great, can pick up on Ebay for around $200 for both units. Looking at a B5 for an SG perhaps

I know I shouldn't say this, but it sounds like a band formed by JB.

Yes, but you have to be gentle with them, no divebombs ;)

I used to grab the headstcok of my old LP and bend it really hard to almost get the dive bomb effect like Randy Rhoads did. Lucky i did not break it. My SG Standard had some Bigsby shaped marks on it, which is why is was cut price. I sanded and polished most of them out and now is almost good as new.

As for trems, I always start thinking I need one, but when i get them I hardly use them.

Thanks people, I would be checking the bridge pretty carefully as it seems to me that dragging the strings back and forth is going to cause some wear on strings and saddles. Cant be arsed with a roller bridge really.

I've got Bigsbys on a few guitars now and even without using one as a vibrato I think they ad something great to the sound of the guitar. There's something about anchoring the strings into that big chunk of aluminium that to my ears gives it a richer fuller sound.

If you get a Vibramate and B7 from Guitarparts.co.nz you should be able to DIY.
