Hey guys,
At present I am in a precarious situation. I don't want to buy a huge amp. I'll play it loud, someone will lose their hearing, and I'll get in trouble from the neighbours.
But that said, I really want to have that 'high gain amp through a cab' sound. So I had the thought of getting some sweet amp modelling software to have a bit of play with.
What would you guys recommend? I've had a bit of a play with Guitar Rig 3 (without the pedal), it's not too bad - but I'm sure there's something out there that's less expensive of an equal calibre.
Guitar software

POD with headphones? I'm loving my Pocket POD through phones, just not through my amp.

Re: Guitar software
Hi there,
I am currently running Guitar Rig 2 and software wise, there is no equal for sheer versatility and tone.
I have used amplitube in the past and demo'ed the Jimi Hendrix edition.
I tried the waves amp modeling ehich sounded really good but lacked options.
Keep a lookout for sec hand guitar rig gear its in the sub 1K area. I saw guitar rig 1 going for $400 on TM a while back.
I used to have that and it was awesome also.
Cheers

Re: Guitar software
+1 for guitar rig 3. It's great, but you definitely need a good soundcard and/or a DI plus a fairly grunty computer.
Your* sound will improve no end if you use a proper DI.

Re: Guitar software
another vote for the Pod..... any of them XT's are going through on trademe sub $400 and I've had a good play with waves/amplitube/guitar-rig up to v3. The pod is better in all respects.
My pod sounds great through my 200 watt monitor - wouldn't use it at a gig though

I'm happy as with my Pandora PX5D.

Woops, the souncard...yes. Thaese days, you can pick up a MAUDIO 24/96 or an EMU 0404 for $150ish.benderissimo wrote:+1 for guitar rig 3. It's great, but you definitely need a good soundcard and/or a DI plus a fairly grunty computer.

Thats a whole lot of bang for $$ with almost nil latency.
As bender pointed out, the benefits reach further than just the software.

Actually I'm going to +1 this too. I've got a pocket pod and it sounds great plugged into a mixer and powered monitors. I now go for software only if I might want to fiddle with the sound post recording. For practise/fartarcling the pod is perfect.
