Using a Panelbeater to refinish a guitar?
A friend of mine once had his Stingray Bass refinished by a panelbeater. Seemed to come out alright. Anybody else tried this? What kind of paint do those guys use?

Sorry, sounds stupid. Ask ASH really nicely and see if he is refinishing..... A great panelbeater paintjob will be far worse than a great ASH paintjob.

So did Fender. But don't tell anyone.Capt. Black wrote:I think they use auto paint.
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Yeah what I meant is does anybody know anything about modern automotive paint and whether it's suitable for guitars? I imagine it may have changed since the 50s.slowfingers wrote:So did Fender. But don't tell anyone.Capt. Black wrote:I think they use auto paint.

Re: Using a Panelbeater to refinish a guitar?
I can't remember his name on here but Chris from Razorwyre used an auto guy to paint his warmoth thingee...He was n't super stoked but it was pretty good for the price. Alternatively I went and spoke to the guy from Chaos guitars (not sure if you have heard of them, its a one guy outfit making guitars in Lower Hutt), I saw a couple of his refinishes and am about to pull one of mine apart to get him to paint mine...Guess you could see how mine works out first, but he does seem keen to get more work like that. PM me if you want to know more...by the way, some of the guitars he has out there are pretty slick. If Iwasn't such a brand snob I'd probably buy one...

Is it Nissan that has the new self healing auto paint? That would cool for a guitar... I wonder how long the self healing part lasts, and what the longevity is like...Oh the idea is all over some other forums...
