New bridge day

Post by quyet »

My compton bridge finally arrived. It's cut to my string gauge and bridge position. I was worried about intonation, but for some reason it works... Not perfect, but quite acceptable.

It sounds much better than the stock TOM - louder and clearer, a bit hard to describe, but definitely a lot more sustain. Everyone should try a bar bridge on an electric.

Now waiting on my HS filtertrons in the post..

Nice. Did you go for aluminium? I had one on an orange Gretsch 5420 just like yours and agree, it makes a huge difference. I took it off when I sold the Gretsch and popped it on my LP where it adds a lot of needed zing.

Would be interesting to compare to my TVJ Classics...
When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

Yea, I was keen on TVJ but couldn't justify the extra cost. I just find the blacktops too hot and lacking in character.

From the reviews I've read the the TV Classics have 'more bite' compared to HS filters and that the aussietrons are faithful recreations

I see, you can intonate the old one but the new one sounds better!

I found that too about the blacktops. Too 'ceramic' sounding ,I guess. I swapped them for some TVJ T-armonds. Loved 'em! Spank, sparkle n growl on tap, but yeah, very spendy!

Generally speaking, they do intonate very well, but it is string gauge dependent it seems. By running 11's on mine the intonation was bang on.

Precisely

I had 12-52 as it was cut for and it was perfect

Put 10-46 on (as seen in the pics above) and it's a little out but acceptable yeh
