Shielding with slug tape solder?
Hello, I've read the posts here about slug tape for shielding. Just a question: do I solder across joints or does it work without it? The internet says the adhesive needs to be cònductive otherwise.

With the amount of a pain in the arse that shielding is, I'd run some solder across the joints is a safety net.

Re: Shielding with slug tape solder?
had to Google slug tape, I'm not much of a gardener.
I use sheets of copper and cut them to the right shape then press them in--maybe a dab of glue. I think strips would work, provided they overlap. Scrape the glue off one edge? Not sure if it will matter all that much, since they are shielding, not conducting.

You can buy sheets of adhesive copper from guitar part shops, much easier, but yes either solder wires between the sheets or use more tape to join them, or overlap them.

When I've used it in the past I've checked and there's been continuity across the pieces.

Well... isn't everyone?
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Re: Shielding with slug tape solder?
Couple of points:
If the copper sheet is adhesive, you will need to solder to have a contact.
If it isn't, you can just press pieces together in overlap.
But then you have potential for movement and the reliance of X number of contact points actually maintaining contact. The odds of failure are miniscule. So small in fact that the only time it would ever fail was in the middle of your most important gig.
Or you could do the engineer thing and solder the damn overlaps.

If you want to drop the shielding around with your guitar, I'll do it while I do the nut.
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Wait, if you're shielding the cavity of a guitar, why do you need to solder anything? It's not acting as a ground, is it?

+1 Copper tape with conductive adhesive... from ebay aliexpress etc. Far easier than how I used to do it with sheets of foil and glue. Works a treat

Re: Shielding with slug tape solder?
I can tell you one thing with certainty, soldered or not, slug tape doesn't bloody work on slugs.
The older I get, the more disappointed in myself I become.
