Favourite Strat colour with rosewood board?

Post by Reg18 »

I unintentionally bought a Vintage V6 Strat copy this week because it was cheap and I thought it might make a good project over the break.
I hated the bright blue it came in so I’ve started removing all the paint to refinish.
I was planning on going for a classic off white possibly as it came with a mint green guard and that’s always a look I’ve liked. However after stripping the top wondering about a 2 tone burst as the top isn’t too bad.
Looks like 2 piece body in Alder?

I’m on the fence about Shell Pink, as it’s seems hard to get right. Anyone got a cross reference to a colour chart in NZ?
I’ll probably be getting the local auto paint shop to be mixing it up but they don’t use the old Fender codes.

So I’ve decided to go with Olympic white to keep it simple (or at least as close as I could match by eye)
The Spray Store are around a week
At least to mix up what I want and this project doesn’t need be perfect as it’s a cheap guitar so it’s the local Bunnings providing the colour coats for this one. Going with what’s called an “ivory white” and I’ll shoot a few coats of clear over top (which I have already)

I’ll post some progress pics as I go.

Have you played with chalk paint before? It 'relics' really quickly and nicely while also being matte. Use a coat of oil on the body as a sealer, then chalk paint over the top (2 or 3 coats), sand it smooth and you're done. It's the finish used on upcycled furniture and is rather cool.

I know it's not authentic, but I've often kind of wanted a 2-tone Sunburst Strat with a Rosewood board.
