Incidentally , the top tuning was not necessary at all . Did not see any difference in sound after putting the bass strings back to the same as the others.

Ok that may as it be but the previous owner reckoned the bass strings were hard up to the bridge ? I am not that sensitive it seems because I did not feel or hear any difference. Mind you at my very advanced age ?
