Just as I've described in this case - simple action/intonation adjustment. Guitar is new so frets and nut are fine.
Then yeah, that's ridiculous. This tech must be in high demand, or very jaded.
Didn't want to name but do feel like this is excessive considering my bandmate was very clear in his comms (I've seen the screenshots) in just asking for the action and intonation to be done only.
He needs to be clear about action adjustment. He is probably talking about bridge height adjustment
... but don't forget that too many, brand new guitars have high action at the nut as well. To adjust that takes more time and skill. Just saying, not trying to justify his pricing.

But, the silver lining is that this pushes more and more people to learn new skills as the price for basic work becomes more and more ridiculous. Your buddy could buy a decent set of tools good for a lifetime for the same amount.
Back when Adrian was doing setups I dont think I even bothered doing my own string changes.
Now days, I still have no setup skills, and very old strings.

So just back to my original question - is there anyone you guys would recommend out East or Central Auckland?
Ramsay Phillips is the guy. Glendowie. But he’s got a week old baby, so his concentration levels may not be 100% at present.

I've heard that Alan Farrow in Christchurch is shutting down at the end of this month, April 30th 2025.
I've not had any experience with Stone Guitars, can anyone vouch for their work? I'd like a new nut cut and installed in my Les Paul, among other things...
