If you know Blackroc, you'll know what I'm talking about.
I'm working on collaborating with some rappers and basically turning their recorded stuff into a proper live act, rather than backing tracks. The live aim is to have minimal sampling, and instead focus on making stomping, danceable, infectious hiphop with live instruments only. I'll be playing bass and possibly some keys.
However, I also want to make the music something a little different to the norm - Blackroc's blues-infused style is a major inspiration, but I'm also really keen to try out a range of different things and styles. Other influences would include Mos Def, Nas, Portishead, Tricky, UNKLE, and lots of collaborative efforts (Magnetic Man ft. John Legend, for example). A decent singing voice is a plus, but not a requirement.
No real age discrimination, provided you have an under-30s Babel fish.
At first it will probably be digital collaboration to get started, and so any skill with drum programming or other instruments is welcome. You must be reliable and committed - by that, I mean I don't want to have to chase you up and have the headache of herding cats like usual.
Oh yes, and you will ideally be in Auckland - the home of hiphop.

Hehehe. Coz old is always better and/or done it already...
First thing you gonna need to do is organise a class trip to the George Clinton and Parliament. See how a real live funk band does it.
Then you gotta look at this... because.... just because...

Believe it or not, way back in the '80s when I was a club DJ, I was the first and only guy getting sent and playing this stuff direct from NY as soon as it was out.
