I look forward to it, I was surprised that the other big RR fan here hadn't posted in this thread, but I wan't going to spam you about it.willow13 wrote:ooh only just seen this thread....i'll have to record a clip some excellent playing so far guys
Slash-ed and BG have both put clip up too, both very good efforts.
I've seen you post at randyrhoads.tk, I put a vid up there and was surprised to get complements rather than shot down, good people there.
Some of them didn't like me saying that ZW has become a disgrace and should go to rehab though.

Ok, Slash-ed, it took a while to find but here it is,
BG's Crazy Train Solo:
http://www.nzguitars.com/forum/download ... hp?id=4316
The Blues Man playing Metal!
It's pretty damn good, but he thought that he stuffed the ending up, nuh, hardly noticable.

He must have used the "Metal Tone For Bluesgeeks" preset on his Pod.willow13 wrote:that's a nice metal tone there BGAquila Rosso wrote:Ok, Slash-ed, it took a while to find but here it is,

I'd love to have a Marshall 1959 RR, but getting a basic 1959 clone and doing the mod would be way cheaper.
All the specs for the 1959 RR are covered over several pages at metroamp.com
BTW: Willow13, the vid is YouTube and the link is here a few posts back.
I've been playing guitar all day, I always finish up with a RR jam.

I've got the 'official' schematic if ya did want to convert it (one).Aquila Rosso wrote: I'd love to have a Marshall 1959 RR, but getting a basic 1959 clone and doing the mod would be way cheaper.

It's just a one wire mod and a Cathode bypass cap change from first glance.

I'm of the opinion that his tone was DAMN good, kick ass it was.
People that say it's crap must be talking about some of those youtube clips where it was bad.
But in studio and on the tribute album it was awesome, ymmv.

I don't think his tone is fantastic on the studio albums, but it really hits hard on the Tribute album. Magnificent.
Thanks for digging up BG's clip btw. Nicely done - who's next?

Re: My quest to play like Randy Rhoads
yeah that was a worrying thing to record as it had more than 5 notes and many more than I'm comfortable playing Did it a couple of years ago, I know I'd have to spend a day or two getting up to speed on it again
That was definitely the "RR Tone for BG" preset

So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Re: My quest to play like Randy Rhoads
I like to play some bluesy stuff as well as metal, because the blues helps with impov and phrasing.BG wrote:yeah that was a worrying thing to record as it had more than 5 notes and many more than I'm comfortable playing Did it a couple of years ago, I know I'd have to spend a day or two getting up to speed on it again

I'm getting a V-amp2 for $60 with the pod sounds in it too, because I can't take the DSL to sea with me.
A guy on YouTube asked me to do a Jake E Lee solo yesterday, but i had to say that I don't know any.
I spent a couple of hours with gpro and came up with this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8QP56Wn_P4
Still rough as guts with timing etc, about as good as my early RR attempts, but ok for 2 hours work and the tone is really close to Jake E Lee I think, ymmv.

I didHot_Grits wrote:For pocket, read 'groove'. He's doing a pretty decent job, but there are licks where he hasn't quite got the rhythmic phrasing in the right spot: right in 'the pocket'. To be honest, I'm being pretty critical here, as he plays fairly well and his rhythm playing is spot on.slash-ed wrote:Hey Hot Grits, what did you mean by "struggling with the pocket"?
But excellent timing is what makes a good musician, and it's the number one problem that soundclick/youtube warriors struggle with.
Listening to that Ozzy backing track is interesting. Anyone else notice that 'crazy train' is basically a disco groove?
I agree with the "pocket" comment.....what I use to do was listen to a song with headphones so I could really listen to the rhythm, you need to listen passed what randy is playing and listen to the groove of the band. Then you will pick up where each solo lick falls into place and makes sense musically (I am doing this again so I can post a clip and not have it sounding embarassing)
as an aside I found this LIVE recording of "diary of a madman" http://ultimaterhoads.com/viewtopic.php?t=2996 it was only played for a few shows in 2000 (with joe holmes)...in case anyone is wondering no they never played it live with randy and they never played it live at all before or after those few shows

Re: My quest to play like Randy Rhoads
It's a pity there is no RR versions of this, but it's still great to hear Ozzy doing DOAM with Zakk live.
I don't worry about embarassing myself on clips. People have heard my first attempts and followed my improvement over time.
Here is todays randy rhoads effort: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVxlkDg1rIY
