Ok I need help......again.

I'm using Audacity to record my guitar but none of the tracks I record my guitar on will have what I played it's just static.Can anybody help me please?

perhaps you should describe your setup.

I've got my guitar connected to an adapter for my soundcard.I just recorded a simple strum and it came out as a static noise.And as I speak I have just figured it out.God damn it.But now I need to distort it without it deafening me.
