Bass pickup mixing

Just wondering which pickups (bridge or neck) people tend to use the most, when playing live or recording...

Its been a while since I played bass properly, but I usually prefer both pickups on, or a slightly neckward bias with a passive tone and vol on full or an active EQ centred with slight adjustments to taste.

Do you make any different choices for fretless or 5 string playing or for different styles of playing?

Usually both full on. I tend to roll off the neck pickup a fifth for fretless. BUT when I feel like moving the earth, just the neck pickup.

don't have any choice on the P Bass ;) I play with the tone control a lot though.

I'm pretty much using the neck pup only on the jazz since I defretted it - it helps get the 'Mwah' if you just use the one :)

My Yamaha which has a plit in the middle and a single jazz thing in the bridge I like to both have on full, gives a great tone!

yep same here for my Yamaha, being as it's the same single split coil setup. I find that I either have my tone at about 3/4 or rolled right off. Volume on full 8)

yep about 3/4 or nearly all the way off (about 95%) gives me a nice james jamerson like tone, especially with a bit of damping :)
