For those who can't stand 5 string basses and get confused on 4 strings - I won't name names - I'm a gentleman, but.... he does live in Auckland.. here's the answer:

2 strings ? pfttt, if you think you need 2 strings to play bass you should go off and play lead guitar you pansy. 1 string is all a real bass player needs!!!!

I currently have one of my basses tuned EAEA. Muddy Waters said something to the effect that if a bassist plays more than the E and A strings he's showing off. I’d like one of those Japanese one-string jobs. That’s about my level these days.
